biography

Alex Damaris rose to prominence in the late 20th Century and was known as a great magic entertainer. He had apprentices, and followers that would do his bidding, and he was able to establish a well-known coven in Brooklyn, New York City, made up of some of his siblings as well as others who are well-versed with performing magic acts. Because of this, Alex attracted the attention of Hecate - the goddess of magic - and together, they sired a baby boy. And so, he was left to raise their son - whom he named Tristan and that's where actually poured all of his time and effort in the subsequent years after his son's birth.

Hecate approached him as a woman interested in the performing arts with a desire to specialize in magic. Alex was in dire need of an assistant at the time since his latest one left so he took her in and the two of them began their routines together. The magician was shocked at how well-versed she was in the types of magic done in performances so the two of them came up with new acts that brought their audiences’ jaws drop. The master and apprentice grew closer with each sold out performance so one night, he decided to let go of his restraints. When he woke up the next morning, he realized what he had done and chose not to tell a word to his wife and three kids. And that is not all- He needed to find another assistant.

Alex was married to Eliza and had three children Philip, Claire and still a baby, Henry. Several months later, Hecate got in touch with him and requested his audience. She did not say why but Alex wanted to know why she left without a word after their night of passion.. When he showed up to the rendezvous point, he set his eyes onto the goddess first and then the baby on her arms. His baby. He wanted to get frustrated at her for her sudden disappearance. They had something good going and she helped him tremendously with his career but she was only back to deliver what was his. She bid him goodbye, leaving the man with a child to raise. When he asked who she was, she only turned around to say he already knew. When he came home, his wife was waiting for him. About to ask him where he went on short notice, she stopped to look at the child in his arms and asked him whose child. He replied, “Mine.” This woman was smart enough to know that he had gone off and did the dirty without her knowledge months ago but she did not say anything but expressed her dislike for him and the child. Their children remained ignorant and treated their newest sibling like their own.

That night when he was sleeping in the living room as his wife didn’t want to sleep with him at the time, he thought about what she meant when he already knew. Their partnership began when he took her in and as they performed more and more, their acts grew more impossible but then was made possible with her help. He questioned her ideas at first, but he trusted her enough to perform them with her. At the same time, his desire for fame prevented him from seeing through the magical properties of their performances. The more he thought about it, the more he began to realize how her role made his career peak. Alex was studying magic entertainment during his university days and came across Hecate a few times. He wasn’t a huge believer in Greek mythology but her figure allowed him to aspire to be a great magician and create acts so magical the audiences would remember him. Even then, some members of the coven have mentioned her as well with some even using her as inspiration for their acts and others then worshiping her. That woman… Tristan’s mother… is Hecate, the goddess of witchcraft and magic. He considered himself lucky at the moment as she had chosen him and they sired a boy together.

Tristan grew up training his abilities as a magician. One of Alex's closest associates, Alder volunteered to overlook all of Tristan's lessons with the other magic entertainers in the coven. At the same time, he sent him to a fencing school several times a week per Alex’s request, him saying that Tristan is born for greatness. As a result, they grew close and had a tight bromance bond - earning him the nickname Uncle Al. However, Tristan could not understand why his stepmother would not treat him as well as his siblings. He could sense that she favored them and would treat him as the lesser child. Wanting answers, he inquired about it with his father but was given nothing useful. Unlike some demigod stories, Tristan was able to discover that Uncle Al is a satyr when he noticed his horns when his hat came off but did not say anything for a while because he thought he preferred to keep it as a secret. Still, it was initially mind-boggling that the person who drops him off to fencing classes has been a creature of Greek fantasia.

One day, during a family barbecue, Henry mocked Tristan’s drawing of a goldfish for having only one fin. While Alex was building a shed, Philip urged his siblings to explore a nearby cave before dinner which they frequently visited in order to enact more scenes of their favorite movie.. They received permission from their mother who reminded him to look after his siblings before saying his signature goodbye. Before entering the cave, it started to rain; Claire  expressed hesitation to go into the cave due to their mother warning them not to go when it was raining, but Philip ignored her. Unfortunately, as they entered the cave, the rain only intensified, and further escalated into a heavy downpour. The cave began rapidly flooding with rainwater, trapping the children. All he could think about was not wanting to drown at the time and this willpower allowed him to escape while the rest helplessly drowned. Unbeknownst to him, it was his magic that enabled him to rescue himself but because he was only thinking about himself- the spell did not apply to his siblings.

During Philip, Claire, and Henry’s funeral, Tristan went downstairs to join the other mourners, but when his grieving stepmother saw him, she immediately blamed him for her children's death. As she furiously yelled at him in front of their guests, her upset son ran back upstairs. This began a strained relationship between Tristan and his stepmother, as she initially grew reclusive from him, seeing him as a reminder of her husband’s unfaithfulness, and later deluding herself into thinking he planned it out, which caused Eliza to become abusive over time. On his ninth birthday, Alex gave him a cake and sat down with him. His son asked if his stepmother was coming, but his father told him that she was not well, but promised she would get better, making an excuse to justify her refusal to celebrate. Tristan blew out the candles on his cake, missing one, and simply sat in sadness as his father blew out the remaining candle. The verbal abuse from his stepmother started when he was nine. As the months went by, their relationship escalated to physical abuse which was only made worse when she resorted to substance abuse. When Alder suggested sending him to camp, an option his mother is more than thrilled to take, Alex refused because he did not want to part with his son. This mere fact drove Eliza mad, making her behavior much worse.

His father loved him but over time his wife’s loyalty to him brought him guilt from doing the dirty with Hecate so he puts more effort into their relationship while minimizing his attention towards Tristan in order to gain her favor. Eliza would take the window of opportunity to maltreat her son whenever her husband is not looking or whenever he is out for work. When he was ten, his father discovered the bruises and inquired about it but his son played it off as an injury he sustained from an accident. Certain regions of his skin accumulated bruises but he could not hide them forever from his father because he was told that if anyone else became aware, especially Social Services, he would not get to see Uncle Al or even go outside. Yet later on he finds more of them and inquired about it but Tristan always provided an excuse.

On his tenth birthday, a drunken Eliza approached Tristan when he was performing magic acts in front of his friends, claiming that he had always hated his siblings and that she should have known that he would kill them. He then went inside the house and ran up to his room, frightened. He locked his bedroom door to keep his stepmother out, but she followed him and started banging on the door, demanding that he open it in a drunken fit. Fearful of her, he crouched into a corner where he began telling himself that she was not his mother. Eventually, she pushed open the door, telling him that he should be punished, grabbing a nearby belt to whip him only to be blocked by a seemingly impenetrable barrier made of black energy. She made several attempts to hit him but they grew futile. When the protection was lifted, she was about to hit him again only to be knocked by a flying book from the back of her head. What he did not expect was his father standing by the entrance of his room who seemed to witness that his wife was about to hit him as well as the book that knocked her out. This sight has convinced him that she had been abusing his son for years to which he drew the line and resolved to leave his wife as soon as possible.

At the same time, a horde of hellhounds- attracted by Tristan’s scent and the darkness he harnessed - showed up and wreaked havoc. Because of their number, the guests couldn't defend themselves and many casualties were created.  Among them was Tristan's father, Alex, who died when he got ambushed. Witnessing his father’s death brought him to shoot bolts of dark energy towards one of the monsters and with Alder’s help, they were able to kill it. As the other two remained, Tristan had to hold his ground, stalling one until the satyr killed the second one. The third one chased him until he halted his tracks. He needed to face him as he cannot rely on Alder entirely. So he turned around and if it works, he could make it work. Imagining a sabre, the very weapon manifested in his hands and he was able to fend it off more easily and kill it on his own. Despite seeing his demigod powers, all he could think about was what he had left. With his father gone, he is left in the hands of his stepmother who is too deep into her hatred for him. Alder was not going to let this go so when he suggested going to Camp Half-Blood with him, Tristan did not hesitate. He wanted to be away from her so bad but only stayed because of his father’s unconditional love. He also needed a place where his powers could do no harm as he desired to harness it to his advantage. To prevent people from dying when he could save them. He wanted to connect with his other half-siblings and learn how their experiences as children of his stepmother affected them.

Tristan tried levitating a book the next day but he had no luck. So when Alder told him that his magic is stronger during the evenings, it made sense when it manifested into his hands at the time. When the pair made plans to travel to camp, Alder dueled him in swordplay while he manifested a sword out of darkness - this time with more vigor as Tristan had experienced a real danger and resolved to be a protector. During the evenings, he would explore his magic and their applications albeit under a short time since their flight date is closing in.

And so, the moment he set foot in Camp's borders, he was immediately claimed by his mother, Hecate. Usually most demigods would be joyful, but he felt more shocked than exasperated. This entire time, his stepmom is actually his stepmom while the goddess is his biological mother. This would explain the supernatural moments he experienced just recently. He became a full-time camper and spends his days training so that he would not be entirely useless during the day. During the evenings, he cultivates his magic with his half-siblings while studying his dark power on the side.

Personality

Eccentric, and also mysterious, Tristan has a presence that could easily be picked up by other people - unless he's deliberately concealing himself, of course - and over the course of his stay at camp, he's noticed that people are often interested in him, maybe because of his physical appearance, or maybe because of the aura he exudes. Regardless, Tristan is a people person, an extrovert at heart, and he has no problems socializing and opening up to others, especially when he takes a liking to them.

When it comes to his craft, Tristan is amazingly disciplined, and is often calm and reserved. This doesn't mean that he's no fun, though, because outside of combat and training, Tristan is a really loud person who can sometimes be excessively talkative, lacking a brain-to-mouth filter at times, and has a penchant for fun games and sports. However, underneath this happy facade, Tristan has troubles when it comes to falling in love. He has no problems trusting others, he just doesn't want to get romantically involved with another person quickly. He's trying his best to get around it, and he hopes that maybe someday, he'd be able to trust somebody with his heart again.
