biography

Orphaned with his younger brother Nolan, Isaiah Kendi grew to fame as an aggressive and tenacious lawyer specializing in tort law cases against the most corrupt of the city, championing underdogs and never giving up the good fight. He was a charismatic and persuasive figure in the courtroom and one of these performances attracted a night of passion with a beautiful and unknown woman. Their meeting was discreet but was cut short the next morning. When Isaiah woke up, she was gone.

Time passed after that and he thought nothing of their encounter until a baby appeared on his doorstep with a note. It explained the circumstances behind his new son and revealed his one-night stand to be a divine being. He did not expect such an outcome - his child. However, he did not want the responsibilities of a father to get in the way of his career so he decided to leave him in the care of his brother but he still made time to see his son during the holidays when possible.

Ibram Kendi grew up with his uncle. His love for him was palpable and he showed so much gratitude whenever he came home for a visit that he couldn't help but feel blessed to have such a caring and supportive man in his life. Their bond only grew stronger over the years and he considered himself lucky to have such an amazing uncle who had his back no matter what came his way. Like his father, he did not like those who preyed on the weak despite their social standing. His compassion for the downtrodden moved him to action on several occasions and he helped those in need without hesitation. No matter who they are, he believed that everyone should be accountable for their actions. However, this proved to be difficult when they crossed paths with those who ignored these ethical principles in favor of their self-interest.

He adopted this ideology early on but this led him to be attacked by bullies. His learning disabilities made him an easy target but he could not let them prevent him from achieving his vendetta. He took matters into his own hands and tried to ask his uncle to enroll him in MMA classes. While he was initially opposed to the idea, the bruises he would see sometimes when his nephew comes home convinced him otherwise. Though his body was not suited for the sport, Ibram learned self-defense techniques for the challenge ahead. With the help of his mentors and his newfound confidence, he was able to defend himself from his bullies on school grounds and was lucky enough not to receive suspension. Instead, it was Thomas Winters who had gotten the punishment. Ibram was gaining confidence in his abilities as a protector but there came a day when it quivered. One week later, Winters hadn’t learned his lesson as he was found bothering him as soon as he got back.. Ibram tried to reason with him but his abusive nature could not be dealt with and so he fought back the only way he knew how- by confronting him in the schoolyard.

What he did not expect is company. He was overwhelmed by numbers but he could not let that control him and flee. In his haste to act on his ideals, he lost focus on what was going on around him and that was all it took for Winters to unleash hell upon them. He was faced with a group of tall boys that were invited for the occasion and wasted no time keeping him occupied. Ibram did his best to take down his cohorts in a fury of punches, kicks, and elbows until they withdrew from the fight. He cornered Winters after that and a fire began to spread from a spark thanks to the oil that was poured on the floor before his arrival. He let him go once but he wasn't going to do that again. Not after he pulled this stunt. It was not that Winters was scared of him but of the group of figures standing behind him.

Lastrygonian giants were disguised as some of the boys Winters had invited, evident in their towering heights and heavily tattooed arms. It seemed like Winters did not think the situation would escalate to this point because he was confident that they had the upper hand over him. Little did he know that they were out for blood and there was no stopping them at this point. Just as the bully fled, the monsters rushed at Ibram with their iron clubs but he barely managed to avoid their swings.

Later, one of them dragged him by the throat into the hallway and Ibram suffered some strikes to his body.. When it looked like a contest of strength did not work, he decided to directly poke his eyes out. Before he realized it, he was lying on the floor struggling to breathe with giant figures standing over him. As he attempted to get up, the one fell to the ground with a thud and firefighters came to his rescue. He was escorted outside the school until they were safe inside an ambulance before being rushed to a local hospital. It was discovered he was suffering from injuries from the fight and smoke inhalation, but it would only require a week's stay for him to recover. Happy to see that his friends visited him when he grew better, he did not think his life was about to change when that firefighter that saved him turned out to be a satyr. Since when do they hire fictional creatures? Yet It was no fable when he was told he needed to be somewhere safe because monsters like that time will target him again. He was convinced but his uncle, to his surprise, agreed on sending him away. It looked like the man had a talk with him behind the curtains.

Shortly after Ibram was discharged, he found himself flying to New York City to live at a secret place only known as Camp Half-Blood. He tried to hide his shock when he found out that he was going to live with demigods and learn to fight like them in exchange for protection. He did not want to admit it but he was feeling a little nervous because he did not know anyone there. The satyr hailed a Grey Sisters' cab and accompanied him until they arrived. Though he wanted him to stick around, he couldn't tell everything since he thought it was better for the camp to tell the rest of his circumstances. And it did, starting with a claiming ceremony where he discovered he was the son of Nemesis not long before his twelfth birthday.

Ibram stayed in camp year-round to train and hone his skills so he could better protect himself and others in the future. He became drawn to monster hunting and found it to be more fun than most other camp activities, especially if it meant proving himself to his peers and earning their respect along the way.

Personality

Ibram Kendi is a reserved person who does not talk about his feelings easily. His friends were glad when they found out that he was dealing with them just fine because they were worried that something was bothering him. He is more likely to point out someone's flaws than to praise them. Where he lacks sunshine, he can be immensely loyal and protective of those who have helped him or given him reason to be so. But he is not one to complain about the small stuff unless he needs to vent and get things off his chest. He's tough on the outside but he can be sensitive on the inside despite his brash attitude most of the time.

Because he grew up without a mother, he has difficulty opening up to others so he tends to be a little rough around the edges and not the most patient person in the world but there is more to him than meets the eye. Despite his gruff exterior, he cares for his friends and he would do anything for them, even risk his life if necessary. He does not like to be around people who are mean and disrespectful towards him and will fight anyone who makes him feel that way. He is not afraid to stand up for himself even if that means he is alone. He prefers to be alone than be with people who belittle him and disrespect him.
