  1. She knew she would one day mistake it for a real pencil so she put it in a place where she would never make that error. To others, it may be a good idea to have it blend into their school utensils pouch or case, but she only put it in a place where she would know about. Like a hidden weapon she would draw in an emergency but that would hardly be the case.

Seeing him drew his longsword, she felt a shudder in her body. It was a surge of excitement mingled with a tinge of caution. The sight of the longer blade in her adversary's hands signaled a new challenge, a test of her adaptability and skill. It was not as though she was bloodthirsty for a fight but she had her ways of showing it with more grace and subtlety. Her adrenaline surged, heightening her senses as she gauged the distance between them. She knew that she couldn't let the initial advantage of the longer sword intimidate her.

Mei distanced herself a bit first.

Her heart pounded in her chest, fueled by the fiery spirit inherited from her godly parent. She had trained relentlessly, honing her skills and embracing the fearless nature instilled within her. She took a moment to survey the arena, its boundaries marked by tall columns and speckled with patches of lush green grass. The sun cast its golden rays upon the clearing, lending an air of intensity to the scene. Everyone else were occupied in their own practices so no one is around to watch them. With a deep breath, the daughter of Ares assumed a battle stance, her feet planted firmly on the ground, legs slightly bent. She tightened her grip on the hilt of her gladius, feeling the weight and balance familiar in her hands. Her muscles tensed, ready to unleash her power and agility.

"That is correct. Then I shouldn't hold back either. Come!"

  2. The armory looked like a big metal shed that looked like it was meant for gardening tools.

Mei Lin entered and instead, the first thing she sees are the rows of weapons and armor lining the walls. They range from swords, spears, and axes to bows and arrows, shields, and even some more exotic weapons like maces and flails. She liked how neat they were arranged, the sight actually giving her more comfort than she had initially thought. She walked through the rows of weapons and spotted the one that draws her the most. A spear. It was similar to Fengxi, but it had a sharp spear head primarily used for stabbing instead of slashing. She had left her hair pin back in the cabin and her mechanical pencil so she thought this weapon is up her alley. With a satisfied look on her face, she was going to leave the armory. She twisted the knob and instantly felt someone was opening the door. She ignored the feeling anyway at the blur of the moment and suddenly saw a familiar face.

She was frightened at the moment, not expecting to see her at this time. "Oh my god, you gave me a scare." Immediately, she spoke in Mandarin but switched to English after drawing a breath to compose herself. "I'm okay. Are you?" She was also concerned for her, given that their meeting was quite sudden. "I was just about to leave with my weapon and go to the forest to hunt monsters, want to join me?"

  3. Before she could begin, she assessed the situation. It was... pretty bad.  The straw and manure were scattered all over the floor, creating a messy and unsanitary environment. The smell was overwhelming, making it difficult to breathe without holding one's breath. The stables hadn't been cleaned in quite some time, and it was clear that a lot of work would be required to get them back into shape. It was smart of her to bring a mask as she always does when she enters into her cleaning mode. For the moment, she wondered how did this even pass but she wasn't the type to shy away from a challenge. Or a punishment for that matter.

She took one look at the mess and set to work, determined to get the job done no matter how difficult it might be. She divided the area into smaller sections, focusing on one area at a time to make the task more manageable. She swept and shoveled the straw and manure into neat piles, then deposited them into a nearby wheelbarrow. Some places were more difficult than the rest because some straw or manure were stuck on the floor which she found to be absurd... but she was still determined to make it spotless.

After an hour of work, sweat began to drip down her face. It was bit difficult to breathe with a mask on but she was used to it. However, a sudden voice had scared her. She was so focused in her chore that she didn't notice someone else come by. "Yeah. As well as my half-siblings but... they didn't want to do it so here I am. I already finished some of it but I could use a hand." Though coming from her words, she was more than happy to get help despite being determined to get it done herself.

  4. Mei wasn't too surprised from his blunt answer. When they first met, she recognized his knowledge on some weaponry. He was one of the few people that she could talk about them, aside from her friends and some of her half-siblings. And while he used it for practice last week, it has been a while since she had held it like this. She wanted to get her hands on every weapon in the shed. Get a feel of them. Fight and battle with them. Even then, she couldn't really fight good without a select few despite showing some degree of proficiency in them. Chuckling at his response, she glanced at her blade. "I think so too. It was a gift by a friend. Some people don't think it's cool, but I don't really care."

Noticing he got closer to her to inspect her blade, she allowed him to do so, tilting it towards him to give him a better view. It made her happy, to see that someone else was fascinated with her weapon. Most campers would be in awe of how she wields some but he seemed more invested in the appearance and their use, given their interaction back at the shed one night. It wasn't until later that he had been staring up at her... Confused, she was about to say something with her eyes narrowed into slits- until his voice halted her tracks.

"I'm not sure. My friend never got the chance to tell me. It was a gift for me as I was starting middle school so I can't give you a good answer. Given that it is possible Cabin Nine could forge these weapons, I'm sure enchantments like this is possible. Though I wouldn't recommend making mine work in pencil form... I'd prefer not to have my blade in hand as I'm writing letters."

At his request, she couldn't be any more delighted. She practiced by herself on most days and with a partner whenever they're available, but she knew having someone to parry her blade is better than swinging air. "I don't see why not. I do have to warn you though. I can be a bit fierce." It was just a fair warning but it happens every time she fights against someone. She could get invested. Maybe too invested, but with Axel, she could try to tone it down a bit.

  5. Mei Lin was occupied chatting with her friends and having a good time, even forgetting that her cabin was going to somehow draw attention to themselves somehow one way or another. It was until a burst of sound interrupted everything and she couldn't help but stop to look. Thunder, thunder, then in a moment's notice, dust clouds was shrouding the campfire. She did her best to wave the dust way, coughing a bit due to come getting past her oral cavity. Once she opened her eyes, she could see a large, built silhouette passing through the group of campers and stopped at the middle where the acting director and her two new half-siblings are. Her eyes turned into narrow slits until he claimed the twins as his own.

That man... is none other than her father. It was the first time he's seen her. And now he appears and claims them? She couldn't believe the audacity of this man. And even then... she could feel her dwelled anger against him. She clenched her fists, seeing that he had nearly harmed other campers and brought a scare to them. She didn't care if he was her father or a god but that was no way to treat others. Mei Lin drew a deep breath and made her way to the center, slithering through the crowd of campers that were fearful of him.

And finally, she got a good look at the man. He wasn't exactly what he imagined him to be, except how could her mom fall in love with this guy? Something about him somehow brought out a fear factor in her but she wouldn't let it show. Instead, she just looked at him as her heart was beating against her chest. She wanted to do do something but after that had transpired, it was probably a bad idea.

  6. Like every demigod's weapon, they're made of Celestial Bronze. The steel glimmered in the sun and if she tilted it in a certain way, the light would have been reflected to hit her eyes. She swung it around with her other hand near her chest, thumb curled and fingers tight against each other. She was just getting a feel for it before honing her skill for it. It had been some time since she used it, but she didn't want her memories of Clover to fade away. Not when he helped her through her time in middle school.

Though when she heard a familiar voice, she stopped her movements immediately as if someone was nearby and was about to get a wound from her blade. She drew a long breath and turned. It was that boy! From the shed and that spontaneous monster hunting escapade. She loved monster hunting but that made her like it better when people are coming along. "Oh, this?" She raised her sword a bit. "It's a gladius. I cannot use it's pen form. It's a mechanical pencil but no lead comes out even when I put one in." She paused. She recognized him but she couldn't really get his name in the first few seconds of eye contact. "You're... Axel, right? Sorry, I'm terrible with names."

Still, he was happy to see him. It had been some time since their last hunt past curfew and finding him and Krystal inside the shed was a fond memory. "Yes, as usual. I haven't touched this since I was holding other weapons so I figured today is there this one shines."

  7. It was the weekend again. Where some campers preferred to use the end of the week to rest up, a certain daughter had different plans for her Sunday morning. Mei Lin had been at Camp Half-Blood for over several years now. She had learned many new things, met many new people and apart from some arguments that led to fights, she was having a great time. One of her half-siblings she beat to a pulp one time is hung around like normal as expected of a child of a war god. They don't succumb easily but she needed to teach him a lesson about messing with her stuffed animals. And no, she's still no fan of her father when he goes around the world in his motorbike with Aphrodite. The most beautiful woman in the world, apparently.

Unfortunately there were still thoughts gnawing at her, thoughts she hardly could let go of. There is an inherent anger that resides in her soul and her fighting discipline discourages practitioners to use their emotions in battle. Seeing that boy from there irked her, but she has a neutral stance with the rest of her half-siblings. She was one of the few girls in the cabin but even she didn't really get along with them because of a culture difference. And mostly because, she doesn't regard their father as high as they do. She stood by her beliefs and she doesn't intend on budging. Speaking of, they don't really take care of their weapons do they?

She elected to spend the morning with her two weapons in a form of a hair pin and a mechanical pencil. She had worked on crafting the former for a long time but it did not take her long to choose the object it can transform too and the other was a gift from a satyr. She thought it was a new pencil but an accident ensued when she held it close to a sheet of paper to write and an entire gladius appeared in her hand... It was horrifying but funny at the same time. Well, it's funny now. Mei Lin arrived at the amphitheater, content that she has this facility to herself. Mostly, but she liked the distancing.

She gazed down at her mechanical pencil and pressed the button with a click. In the next moment, she held her gladius by the grip. It's no special when it had chipped edges but she made sure to take care of it. It was symbol of friendship with Clover and she hasn't seen him in a while. @ Axel Gauthier

  8. When she approached, two others did the same as if they collectively agreed. She did not mind the company, evident in her positive reaction when the boy was inquiring about her. It pleased her to know that Dawn had mentioned her to one of her half-siblings... assuming she was right. "And you must be Luca! Dawn says she sometimes drags you into one of her little schemes. I'll say I can't blame you. She drags anyone close to her into trouble and I'm saying from experience." She couldn't help but chuckle, remembering that they almost got in trouble for turning a group of campers weapons into seeds and placed them in the soil for them to find. It was actually quite funny to her but she became more cautious of herself after that. No trace left behind, she told herself.

"I just came back from my homeland early this month. It was a festival dedicated to my ancestors, though I'm sure my father wouldn't like me praying to them when I haven't prayed to him." Mei Lin didn't care for him when he was never a part of her life. He was for her mother's, but it was only like an instant and then he was gone. "Anyways, after we cleaned the graves we just celebrated by eating some street food, played games, and hung out with our relatives. It's been a long time since I've seen them so that's why I was gone for a week." And she was right to know her father never cared for her family in the first place.

"Anything happen while I'm gone? I bet you made people mad again." She helped herself to a giggle.

  9. She was back here again.

The day of the multicultural festival in Mission Prep. The little girl remembered how it all played out where two worlds collide, giving her a reminder that she was not as strong as she thought she was. That monster made the hellhounds she fought look like small fry. it looked like a woman on a snake with two tails as it destroyed the decorations, the seating, and the stands. Food was scattered all over the ground along with paper used for ornaments. Maybe she ignored that feeling then, but she would have been startled if it weren't for her bravado persona, thinking she could have taken that thing on by herself. But she didn't, still strangled by that snake body. She couldn't break free and the dracaenae looked at her with a smirk, speaking some words she couldn't make out.

She woke up with the need to catch her breath and looked past the cabin windows. It was during the day.

Mei Lin dropped herself back on the mattress and held her hand against her forehead. It was just a dream, she muttered to herself. After she composed herself, the first thing she thought of was a weapon in her hand. It may not be her gladius, but it was any weapon, shape or form. Maybe she could feel better if she held one. She grabbed her mechanical pencil from her night stand and she left Cabin 5 dressed in her training attire, which consisted of leggings, a tank top, and a pair of sneakers. She can be found taking a stride to the armory that sat next to Athena's cabin. Wasn't this the same place where she and two others were almost caught? @ Krystal RosePegasus.png

  10. Once Dustin had left the cabin, the other Ares children followed suit. Except her.

Mei Lin was in the middle of composing a letter to her mother, detailing whatever happened over the past two weeks. When she had first arrived, she wrote her a letter every week but now that she was more used to camp life, the two of them felt comfortable with the bi-weekly period. And of course, the usual Mandarin and English copies is on their way. She had tried to learn Korean recently, but she figured she had a lot in her plate with her camp activities. Maybe next time, she could ask for some language material from Eun-ji. She continued scribbling in her sheet of paper but was later disturbed by one of her half-siblings, urging her to come to the bonfire. "I'll be there!" She shouted and huffed, before shortly finishing her first draft of the English copy.

Once she was done, she left the cabin in a casual attire with her red shirt sporting her father's symbol else and a pair of denim blue jeans. She never liked her him but once you spend enough time with his other children, it was more like the Ares Cabin pride that got to her. And she was proud to be a member of that cabin. Anyways, she strode over to the campfire and soon saw Dustin with Krystal who finally sailed the ship. It made her happy so he decided to babysit her half-siblings as to not disturb their mood while looking... is that Dawn?

Mei approached her, seeming to forget her half-siblings. "Hey, you!"

  11. She normally wouldn't use an axe, but she elected that today would be some time to practice it. Even though her powers enable to control any weapon of her choice, she preferred honing her skill in a select few, believing that using those weapons make her a strong contender in the battlefield. Still, she thought it would be nice to have some experience with other weapons since she can't just transfigure an object into one of her choice every time. It took energy and she found that out the hard way. After taking a swig, she gazed at the hacked wooden dummies that lay in one area of the arena in her proximity while the other campers took their training to the vacant spaces. One camper seemed to be approaching from afar and she could recognize her from her red hair.

"Thank you, Elena. I appreciate it." She responded with a cordial tone, followed by a smile. Placing her flask down on the cavea, she paced to where the hacked dummies are and picked up the first remains. "So what brings you here? Training, right?"

♢ Being a daughter of Ares grants her expertise in any weapon, but she can be found using bladed weapons.

♢ Her main choice of weapon is Fengxi, a guandao invented by the famous general Guan Yu during the early 3rd century AD. (She still thinks this man was a child of Ares.) It can transform from her lotus hair pin.

♢ Her secondary weapon of choice is a gladius given to her by Clover.

♢ Her fighting style stems from a discipline of kung fu, making her an arguably skilled combatant.

    Strengths

♢ Her moves are strong and agile, able to think on her feet during battle. Her weapon is like an extension of her body.

♢ She is able to curse her opponents' weapons.

♢ She can transform any object into a weapon of her choice.

    Weaknesses

♢ Like every child of Ares, she does have a short fuse. If you push the right buttons, her judgement may be clouded.

  13. She hadn't expected that the cabin leaders are out and about so she supposed she could put the notice in the back burner. For some reason, she took a liking to Dawn but but she was also making her she was finding the right words to say. She couldn't help but let out a soft chuckle in her distaste for responsibility, but even there are times when she liked having some form of obligation. It keeps her busy but most importantly, it makes her feel important. One of the first things that caught her eye was her fingerless gloves. Those colors... are an odd combination. She sat comfortably in her chair while her suitcase rolled to the side. It sounds like they held a volleyball game, one of the few sports she was competitive in.

But she was more concerned about sort of fight that broke out and it caused even the Camp Director to interfere and drop the game. It was a relief to know that no one was fatally injured. Otherwise, she might even go out of her way to scold the person that caused it. In the meantime, since Dawn is here to tell the tale, she could confidently assume she is alright as well. "That is good to know. I'm glad you guys had fun either way. I'm not terribly good at volleyball..." She attempted to humble herself in a comment. "But I can do a spike or two."

Mei observed her power in action and the flower suddenly rejuvenated. The magic of Demeter children, she thinks, is quite beautiful. It also seems like she's attempting to draw that flower after shooting a glance at her sketchbook from the side. "I went back home. To San Francisco. It was Lunar New Year so I celebrated it with my family and friends. We ate street food, played games, and enjoyed a fireworks display. I wouldn't miss it for the world."

  14. It was a warm morning, the sun beating down into the valley following the showers of the previous day. She was in the sword fighting arena, a build up of sweat dripping from her, causing her gray crew neck to cling to her uncomfortably. The hoodie she'd been wearing over it had been thrown to the side as the heat and exercise made it unbearable. She had just came back to camp from China as she had planned on observing the Qingming festival with her mother and grandmother. They traveled to their ancestors' gravesite to clean, make offerings to them, and enjoyed what the festival has to offer. It was almost a week-long holiday but she was more surprised that she hasn't encountered any monsters in her time outside of the camp's borders.

Hopping back and forth, Mei Lin twisted her great axe in her hands with, eyes focused on the dummy in front of her. Surrounding them were the remains of other wooden constructs, hacked and crushed with heavy, somewhat coordinated swings. Tightening her grip, she brought the axe around to the back of her head and swung it around, aiming to decapitate the dummy. She calculated the length of her weapon as the blade of the axe sliced through the neck of the dummy and the head dropped itself to the ground. But she was not done just yet. She took a step back as she raised the axe and swung from the side. The blade didn't slash this time but was wedged in the middle of the wooden chest. Mei Lin tried to pull it free, but it didn't budge. She muttered swears in Mandarin before making another attempt and her weapon suddenly came loose, causing her to fall flat into her back. She wasted no time to kick herself back up and performed several close combat moves until the dummy fell backwards from her kick to the chest. She was done.

Slowly pacing to the side of the area where she left her hydro flask that was covered by some cute stickers, ice cubes bobbing inside.  Water was poured from the head down before settling in the cavea, she took swigs as she stared at the mess she made. She planned on cleaning after herself. @ Elena Clarke

  15. Mei Lin was donning stripped sweater with a tint of red, tucked into a pair of jeans with small holes where her knees are at. Her hair was tied up into a pony tail, bangs swept to the side for that casual and cute look. On her feet are a pair of white sneakers, clean and fresh. She bought a new pair while she was away, but there is a subtle tint of dirt upon closer inspection from arriving at camp. She didn't expect to hear a thud and it certainly came from a person running to greet her. Looks like someone's excited and it made her happy. She's always open to forming new connections. "Hey, Dawn! I'm Mei Lin or Mei if you want." She shot a glance over to her suitcase before giving her an eager nod. "I did yes! I was away for the holidays but I'm here to check in with a cabin leader to let them know I'm back."

"How have you been if I may ask? How was camp? Anything new that I might have missed? I hope my half-siblings didn't start any fights or hurt anyone. I like their fighting spirit, but I don't condone taking it out on someone they can bully," she paused to clarify even though she may not needed it, "I sleep in the Ares cabin, but sometimes I feel like I'm the most tame aside from Dustin." She was bombarding her with questions, but now that she asked them, she grew curious to know her and whatever could possibly happen when she was gone.

The daughter of Ares was away for Lunar New Year in San Francisco where she spent the time reuniting with her friends and family. It was also her birthday as well so she took pride in the idea that she was born in the eve of the cultural holidays. She enjoyed a feast, outings with her friends, visits to the night market, and even squeezed a trip to Los Angeles. The schedule was a bit hectic, but she reserved a chunk of time to rest up and do things in her own pace. She enjoyed feeling at home, despite being in the demigods' camp for several years now but she did make sure to visit during other holidays as well. This time, she decided to do something different and invited a select few of her demigod friends along so they can experience her culture and have fun.

She finally returned, her dignified figure visible from the top of Half-Blood Hill. She waved at Peleus on the way to the Big House, where she was going to check in with a Cabin Leader and inform them of her return. She was the last one among her friends to return from their holiday excursion, wanting to spend a bit more time with her family. A hand was gripping the handle of her suitcase as she strolled through the grassy fields. Eyes glancing over to the campers in their usual orange tee, or others that decided not to conform. The dress code wasn't clear so it was left to anyone's choice whether or not they want to don the brand. The suitcase was lifted as her foot went up to the stairs of the porch and the young lass found herself inside the administration building.

She was more curious on the first one who could greet her, whether or not they are aware of her being away.

    Hello?

She spoke in Mandarin, then English. "Hello? Anyone here?" @ Dawn De La Vega

  17. A wave of relief washed over her upon the girl's assurance but it was something she felt she needed to hear. Even though it would sound better directly from Dustin, from someone he considers as his sister might be the closest she's gotten so far. As the both of then entered the venue, it was only a couple of days ago when she visited for her daily training. She never does the same exact routine every day so she rotates to prevent decreasing her motivation. She repeating the same routine does just that so she tries switching it up whenever a part of her did not want to train. Giving the amphitheater a glance, she noticed a couple of other campers just sitting down on the steps and having a chat but none she felt wanted to use the center stage which she was pleased to see.

As the two of them settled into their positions, Mei Lin gave herself a deep breath with her eyes closed, letting the breeze sway over them. It was for that moment where her arms are against her body and her legs against each other until she formed a stance with her two closed fans. Eyes looking at her opponent with confidence. "That's what I should be asking you. Come.

  18. From the way he hinted at his intended curriculum, she thought the man was in the right path. It mirrored very much the way she was trained and it required a tremendous amount of patience. Sometimes she wonders how she got this far, only to convince herself that it was those martial arts flicks that she wanted to mimic. However, there were more or less a ton of other reasons she persevered and she just chose to gloss over them. "Correct. Once the grunt work is done, all you have to do is look ahead but that is easier said than done. You never know what your opponent might do so you'd have to prepare not your mind, but your body for the next move. A good example might be that you... deflected a punch and threw an uppercut at the same time they wouldn't know what hit them."

"I do like dual wielding if I'm being honest. Two of the same weapons, twice the attack damage. Priority over offense and speed rather than defense... but of course I can defend myself if an attack is coming. I just don't have a shield or heavy protection but you would not find me with a pair of the same armaments every day. I like to rotate. Be sort of unpredictable." Mei Lin helped herself to a giggle. It was not often she found herself talking about her combat style but it felt pleasant to talk to someone who knows their stuff. She does take combat classes and integrated their moves but she would always wind up relying on what she already invested years in.

"Fantastic. I do think it is a good idea for us to have another weapons teacher. The more, the merrier, right?" She proceeded to place her two broadswords together before fitting them into one thick sheath. To the outside observer, it seemed like it can only hold one sword but they'd be surprised to see her routine making that two. "Hmm... I train up to 2 hours per day, sometimes more if I am feeling motivated or I just wanted to vent my emotions. You would not find me training on weekends but if you do, it's a rare sight." Though there are times when she does slack off, but she wouldn't tell him that. "What about you, mister?"

  19. The fact that her after hours training had turned into a monster hunt was quite the development she did not expect earlier but she nevertheless felt thrilled by the prospect. She considered it like a sport and some could call her competitive about it though she decided to exercise more caution when it's dark out. She very much preferred letting loose during the day. Her current attire was not exactly fit for monster hunting but she didn't want to spare a trip back to the Ares Cabin. No monster is going to wait for their opponent to be prepared, she believed. "On the contrary. I think you're doing just fine." As the three of them left the shed, Mei tagged along in their stroll towards the camp's magical barrier that acted as a boundary. Hidden from mortals, hidden from the more dangerous monsters.

"Yes, I did. You just told me." She helped herself to a grin and resumed her cordial tone. "I'm Mei Lin. Nice to meet you, Axel."

If things went awry, Dustin would probably be one of the first ones to know and she would rather train than hear him scolding her. She resolved to follow her made up hunting ground rules but a part of her wanted to seek out a bigger monster. Or a horde of small ones. "Okay, but what sort of creature were you expecting to see out there anyway? It's not like we're going to meet the Minotaur or something."

  20. The girl gave her a nod. "Not many know that these fans can be used in combat. We use them to cool ourselves but they also bear ceremonial purposes. They are quite often used for obvious applications which makes them one of the best arms for stealth. If a barrage of arrows are coming for me, I can deflect them with these. If you ever seen those moments in television where a character uses these, it's sort of like how I use them. Besides, I saw it once on a program and thought it was fantastic." Mei Lin could not help but giggle. Some of the moments in martial arts/fighting flicks became inspiration for her to train and try out new weapons which her master in some cases would disagree.

"Hm?" She turned her head towards her as the two began their little stroll to the arena. She recalled bumping into them back in the beach but her involvement did not last any more than a couple of seconds, knowing a little bit about Dustin's history with her. "My brother is alright. He's just... going through a development, I believe. I don't want to assume anything but I think he blames himself for you guys breaking up. I'm not too sure what happened, but he's speaks highly of you so I know for certain... that he still is in love with you." She paused with a smile. "Don't tell him I said this. I feel like he'll scold me for telling this to you..." Her tone grew somber towards the end.
