  1. Samantha listened patiently as Willow expressed her doubts and concerns about her feelings for Killian. She could tell that her friend was struggling to make sense of her emotions and was worried about getting hurt. "I understand what you're saying, Willow," Samantha said softly. "It's natural to want someone to love you for who you are, not just for what you can give them. And I know it's hard to trust someone who has a reputation for being a player." She paused for a moment, thinking about how to best help her friend.

"But lately…well…I also am coming around to the idea that it's possible for someone to change. People aren't just defined by their past actions, and Killian might surprise you if you give him a chance." Samantha knew sometimes people put up walls to protect themselves, but that didn't mean they couldn't be broken down. As she said this, Samantha couldn't help but think about her own situation. She had been slowly developing feelings for Evelyn, but she hadn't yet found the courage to tell her. "I'm not saying that you should ignore his past behavior, but maybe try to get to know him a little better. See if he's willing to be honest with you and show you a different side of himself."

At the same time, Samantha understood that Willow might not be ready to take that chance, and that was okay too. "If you're not ready to take that risk, that's understandable. You deserve someone who will treat you with respect and make you feel loved for who you are. And if Killian isn't that person, then it's better to find out now than later." She smiled warmly at her friend. "Just remember that I'm here for you, no matter what happens. We'll figure it out together. And if you ever need to talk or vent, I'm always here to listen."

  2. Samantha was half tempted to ask her if she should go grab one of her siblings. Surely Levi or Helena would know better than her on how to console a distraught Evelyn. This seemed like a deep-seated and personal issue, so much so that Samantha almost felt like she was trespassing by merely being here. And yet…if her feelings for Evelyn were as genuine as she was beginning to suspect they were, then this is exactly where she should be. Plus, Evelyn had not brushed her away just yet, maybe she…wanted her here? As out of place as it felt Samantha still wanted to do her best to help which right now seemed to consist of just listening as Evelyn poured her heart out.

Oh…wow, I didn’t know any of this. I can imagine it must be difficult having these expectations put on you, I guess I can sort of relate to that.” As she thought back on the last several years, the drive to always be the perfect example of righteous morality. It was a burden both her parents and herself had placed on her. To be honest trying to always live up to that had broken her a few times, like it seemed to be breaking Evelyn right now.

Have you shared any of these with your siblings? It can help to have someone to confide in. Someone you don’t have to always appear as the carefree girl around. Someone you could be vulnerable around. I….” she stopped herself as she realized she was just about to offer to be that special someone. Samantha shocked herself at just how naturally it felt, to offer to be that person in her life. These feelings towards Evelyn that she was having were still so new and foreign to her though. So wasn’t sure she could be brave enough to admit them…to ever admit them. So she opted to do what she felt brave enough to do in the moment, placing her arm around Evelyn as she grabbed a spare tissue and began to dab away at the tears.

  3. Samantha laughed at Sage's enthusiasm as her younger sister ran off, no doubt to probably return with more decorations. By the time they would finish this would most certainly be the most festive location in camp. "So Katie, any plans on things you hope to accomplish for the upcoming New Year?" she asked as they both waited for Sage to return. Being daughters of Athena, it wasn't uncommon for their cabin to always be planning ahead. Samantha was particularly guilty of always having a road map for the various goals she planned on tackling in her life. While she tried not to pry too much into her sibling's lives she was always curious what interests they were pursuing.

It didn't take long before Sage returned with a box that looked as almost a big as she was. Samantha was about to ask if she needed help but stopped herself, Sage had an amusing stubbornness about her and probably wanted to bring it in on her own. Sifting through the box Samantha settled on grabbing an armful of Christmas stocking and took them over to the fireplace to begin hanging them up. "Where do you suspect they get these decorations from? Maybe they just accumulate over the years?" She had a hard time picturing the camp director caring enough to go out and purchase them himself.

  4. Samantha couldn’t help but gently laugh along with Kenna's giggles. Of course she wouldn’t know anything about the kind of distractions boys could bring. The young Hephaestus girl was just the kind of pure innocent soul that Samantha would do anything to project, in fact, she reminded her of a few of her own younger Athena siblings. Speaking of Athena, her mother made exercises like this feel like second nature as it took her barely any time at all in order to mimic Kenna's moves to perfection.

I AM DOING IT!” she loudly proclaimed along with Kenna, playfully matching the younger girl’s enthusiasm. “But only because I have such an excellent teacher,” she winked. Training with Kenna was turning out to be a lot more fun and energetic than her normal rigid and super serious training routines. “How does it feel? Like it was made by an expert craftswoman” she complemented as she twirled the dagger around her hand.

You should be really proud of yourself! I wouldn’t know the first thing about making a weapon as fine as this. I’ll make sure it gets good use protecting the campSamantha promised. “Here” she started, getting behind Kenna, “Lift your arm just a tad bit higher. Perfect! Just like that, that’ll make sure your arm doesn’t tire as quick during the motion. Now try that again and see if you don’t notice a difference.

  5. Being a daughter of Athena, Samantha was used to tactically planning her actions out several moves in advance. Confronting (and then comforting?) a distraught Evelyn was not in her playbook! Still, a growing part of her wanted to be there for her if she could, even though she had no earthly clue what to say right now. The only course of action she could think of was to ask and sit, but now that she had done that, she was uncertain what to do or say next.

No, no lectures” she started, trying to choose her words carefully “you seemed to be in pain and well I guess I was…worried…about you.” She coughed nervously, worried she may have revealed too much. Out of all the kids at Camp Halfblood she knew she was at the bottom of the list for ‘most likely to console a crying Evelyn’. “I do want to hear!” she continued now, scooting a little bit closer to the Aphrodite girl. She pulled out a small tissue packet from her pocket and sat it down in reach of Evelyn. “Ummm, just in case you needed anymore.” As she waited, grey eyes watching intently for the other girl to start sharing.

  6. Samantha paused her decorating to consider Sage's question. "Hmmmm not as many as you might think, most of them turn out to be incredibly boring politician type people. A few famous people drop in for different charities or dinners that come up. I might Logan Lerman once a few years ago, he was a bit of a disappointment though to be honest. Oh! I did shake hands with John Legend once, it was a very short interaction though." As she went on she continued working on her decorating until she had finished hanging up the strings of popcorn around the walls of the cabin. "There! What do you all think? Does it look festive enough?" she asked Katie, admiring the work her other two sisters were focussed in on. Picking up a few of the remaining ornaments she began helping them, filling in any bare spots on the tree. "As far as I know they're as immortal as the rest, and their kids just like us. Or did we misunderstand your question?"

  7. Samantha inwardly cringed as soon as her foot cracked the branch, holding her breath she paused to wait and see if she’d gone undiscovered thinking that maybe she could step backwards and retreat. No such luck though! She’d often found herself unprepared around Evelyn, this time was both similar and yet starkly different too. She was slowly getting use to snarky, confident, 'devil may care' Evelyn, but this side she was currently witnessing was anything but; even more surprising Samantha felt…sadness? She was wide eyed as Evelyn unloaded her rant unsure what to do in this situation, after an awkward pause she finally spoke.

I…I was actually looking for you” she confessed slowly before pausing again. Truth was just a few months ago this was probably exactly how she would have loved to catch Evelyn. Now though? After a lot of self-reflection and talks with Helena she still wasn’t quite sure about her new feelings, but she knew she didn’t want Evelyn hurting. She cleared her throat and did her best to continue “Ummm no, no I don’t want to see you like this. Are you ok? What happened?” She cautiously approached the porch, “May I sit?” she asked, pointing to the steps of the cabin.

  8. Samantha was already strategizing the quickest route to the armory for her training sword. She would never use a real one against an unarmed opponent (especially a weak Aphrodite) but a couple knocks from a wooden one might teach that bully Levi to think twice about helping his sister prank her. It was about that point that an unwelcome suggestion entered her brain. A thought of something that she should say even though she one hundred percent did NOT want to say it. The thought only grew louder in her mind second by second, feeling less like a suggestion and more like a command. Ignoring it almost became painful in a way, she knew the only way to make it stop was to….“I’m the camp clown!” she stated, loud enough for those in the immediate vicinity to overhear.

As soon as the words left her lips the feeling died and her hands clamped over her mouth in shamefaced shock! As if reading her mind, Levi explained just how far he could take those powers if he so choose to…wait did he mean what she thought he did??? Did he even think of her in that way? “Gross Levi!” she shouted out loud unintentionally. “I mean….ahem…I chose to say that!” she stated, nose tilted upward in defiance, but her flush red cheeks said otherwise.

That’s when the soft giggle of Evelyn’s low laugh drew her attention back to the girl, she stared into the girl’s eyes almost without realizing she was, as if she was charm speak'ed into doing it. Samantha knew better though, she was staring because she couldn’t help but be drawn in, it was like her rival held some kind of hypnotic hold over her. Was Evelyn really offering her help or was this all a part of another prank? She had butted heads with this Aphrodite girl on many occasions but this time it just felt...different. Maybe it was the embarrassment of the clown makeup, or being flustered by charm speak, but being this close to Evelyn made Samantha feel as if she was a mouse being toyed with by an amused house cat; and if she was honest with herself…she didn’t mind it.

NO! Her mind shouted back at her, this girl is just trying to get your guard down, get you to share secrets and feelings about yourself that you’re not ready (or able) to admit. GET. OUT. NOW. Samantha always listened to her instinct, it was a gift that had helped her accomplish so much, besides who needed feelings when Athena taught that instinct and logic reigned supreme. “Ummm…uhh..no. No thank you!” she quickly stuttered out in response. Turning, she looked around for the closest exit. At that point realizing just how many people were staring at her, she must look completely ridiculous, rather humiliated now she made a beeline for the door, covering her face as best she could. Swearing in her mind that she’d pay Levi back for this, somehow forgetting to make the same vow against Evelyn. In a very illogical moment all she could think about Evelyn was the girl’s pretty eyes.

  9. Have you seen Evelyn?” Samantha had asked in a serious tone to another camper. The sun was starting to set and she’d wasted the better part of her afternoon looking for the girl. “Go figure…” she mumbled when they answered in the negative. Of course the ONE TIME she was actually wanting to find Evelyn would be the time that the girl had seemed to vanish. One Hecate camper had thought he’d seen her by the lake sunbathing; another said she was at the amphitheater. Samantha had zigzagged her way all through the campgrounds looking but it seemed like everytime she had either been given bad info or she had just missed Evelyn.

Does she know I’m looking for her and she’s hiding??” she said out loud to no one in particular, starting to get annoyed. She’d recently learned through Helena that the bubbling feelings Samantha had started having towards Evelyn might be reciprocated. This had given her the opportunity to plan her own playful prank in return, but before she put the plan together she’d wanted to confront her rival about something that had been bothering her. It was late and she’d given up for now when a camper said he’d seen her go into the Apollo cabin a couple hours ago. Realizing what time it was Samantha quickly pieced together what Evelyn was up to. It made her feel….jealous? This was a new emotion for her and one she still wasn’t sure how to feel about. Intrusive thoughts of what that Apollo camper was getting to do to her body started to fill her mind. Shaking her head vigorously as if that would also shake the thoughts out. She’d been having this problem a lot more lately.

That’s when she got an idea, how funny would it be to confront Evelyn after the act was done, catch her off guard for once! That might make her more susceptible in answering Samantha’s questions. As she made her way to the cabin she saw Evelyn sitting at the steps…crying? Well this was not at all how Samantha had planned for this to go. Quickly darting behind a tree as she tried to plan her next move. Why was she crying? She didn’t think Evelyn was capable of showing any emotion that could be considered vulnerable. Maybe she should leave her alone and try again later? Taking half a step forward *CRACK* and onto a fallen tree branch...she froze in place. Drat! she thought to herself...

  10. Samantha got back into position, she was determined to actually get to play the game! Looking around her to see who all was on her team yellow again;James, Helena, Mateo, Katie and Herself. And assembled across from her stood Dustin, Rebecca, Krystal, McKayla, and Killian with the last minute substitution for team orange.

This time everyone waited until Mr. D blew the whistle before beginning. Samantha knew this would be an uphill battle against a team consisting of TWO Nike kids, but like any game strategy was key and that was her gift. As the ball went back and forth she paid attention to where everyone was set up and when she saw an opening she went for it leaping up and spiking the ball into enemy territory for the point. "Wwwwooooowwwhhhoooo! Bring it Nikes!" she cried out in challenge.

  11. Samantha was pleased to see her words had gotten through to the young camper, she loved building up her fellow camper’s self-esteem. The look that flashed over Kenna's face indicated she was realizing the worth of her talents. Samantha’s grin vanished momentarily when Kenna asked what she meant by ‘distracted’, she’d forgotten just how young this Hephaestus girl was! Putting on a grin again, “Ohhhh never you mind about that sweety! Stick with me and you’ll never even have to worry about it. Now, about that training?” she continued changing the subject before anything could get uncomfortable, twirling the dagger through her fingers.

Getting into position next to Kenna she observed her going through the motions. Being a daughter of Athena this was nothing new to her but she still humored the young girl in setting the pace. Kenna's enthusiasm was efficacious and Samantha was having a lot more fun in this morning’s training that she’d anticipated. “Oh I think I got it” she winked, “Ahhhhhh!” she cried as she lunged forward mimicking Kenna's example perfectly. “Hope you can keep up!” she teased playfully.

  12. "Hmmm" Samantha crooked an eyebrow at Sage mentioning Gael. She'd have to keep an extra eye out on her little sister if she was hanging out with the likes of him. Gael had been known to hangout with Theo, another camp troublemaker. She'd even heard a rumor once that Gael, Theo and another camper had engaged in some...unseemly deviant behavior together. Well, they wouldn't corrupt her little Sage like that!

"Well it's nice to see the both of you enjoying your time and keeping busy. As the saying goes, idle hands are the devil's workshop!" As she worked getting the popcorn strands just right, grabbing a chair she stood on it in order to reach the top of the wall. "Me? I've mostly stayed here this year, parties in DC become a bore after awhile. At least the ones I'm expected to attend. I got permission from father this year to skip out. He's telling everyone I'm taking a holiday in Greece so I won't be too badly missed. Of course, the price is I can't easily slip out of camp without being extra carful to cover my tracks."

Finishing one wall she stepped down and started to move the chair to the other side. "Katie the tree is looking just lovely!" she chimed in as she passed her other sister.

  13. Samantha was about as surprised as Willow was by her words. Prior to the holidays Killian was in no way someone she’d ever recommend getting involved with given his past reputation. When it came to body count he could give an Aphrodite camper a run for their money! She wasn’t out right opposed to dating and relationships, they could serve a purpose when initiated correctly, it was just that those conditions rarely seemed to happen here at Camp Halfblood. Yet like Willow, she herself had been trying to figure out a lot over the last few weeks. Re-evaluating her values and outlooks on life was a part of growing up, but this particular bout of self-reflection had been a real doozy.

Yea, I understand even the simple things like stepping outside your cabin might be awkward.” Truth is, Samantha had been avoiding certain people herself lately because she didn’t know how to handle her feelings around them. “We all make mistakes, and we make decisions that call into question the beliefs we thought we’d never waver on.” Now she was thinking about the recent incident with Levi at the lake, so much had happened to her recently she felt like she was giving this advice to both Willow and herself at the same time. Sitting there in silence for a moment, she twirled her hair around her finger thinking. It then occurred to her though, she had failed to ask probably the most important question she could. “Willow…” she began “What do you want? Not what you think can or should happen. What do you wish would happen? If you had a magic wand and could control the situation, what outcome would you create? Maybe that’s where we should start.

  14. Samantha’s emotions felt all over the place! Fear and confusion mixed in with happiness and….love? She still wasn’t comfortable with the whole idea but was trying to allow herself a moment to just follow the emotion rather than rigidly analyze and resist it. It was reassuring to hear that you could have feelings for someone while also being driven crazy by them; that certainly explained her current relationship with Evelyn!

From there on, Samantha’s challenge was to try and listen to both her rapid internal thoughts and Helena's advice. It didn’t help that thoughts of Evelyn kept breaking through though with that smirk she always flashed! If Samantha was honest, that smirk and the way Evelyn always teased her had caused some feelings to stir up, feelings that she was only just lately identifying with. Helena's fire analogy drew her back into the conversation and Samantha wondered just what it was about herself that had ‘sparked’ Evelyn so. As Helena continued she knew she didn’t want that spark to die out; for either of them. As she listened intently to Helena's scheme, nodding occasionally in understanding, she couldn't help but grin. This would be a great way to pay back Evelyn for all those years of pranks while at the same time getting a chance to express how she felt. She knew she’d be very nervous when the time actually came, but for now she put on a brave face and agreed to the deal.

  15. Samantha waited patiently for her friend to collect herself and calm down. Willow was clearly in a state of emotional turmoil. While Samantha always kept a tight grip on her feelings (at least in her mind she always did) she knew from experience to not rush Willow in getting to the point. She would get there when she was ready, in the meantime Samantha gently massaged her friend’s shoulder with the arm she had wrapped around her.

She smiled softly, “Yes, Killian can be quite charming when he chooses to be” she affirmed. It was true, Samantha was immune to the Irishman’s charms, but they were there. It wasn’t hard to imagine a scenario where her friend could be ensnared by them. As Willow went on to explain what happened in New York, Samantha had to bite her tongue at moments not to jump in and interject with what SHE would have done in that situation. She had to remember that not everyone here at camp had the same amount of self-restraint that she did; it was her job to instruct them just as her mother instructed wisdom to those who sought it.

When Willow finished she took a deep breath, this normally would be the part where Samantha would chime in with the beginning of a lecture, but when it came to Willow she had a bit of a soft spot. The girl was truly a caring soul and she did put up with Samantha when many did not, in return she tried to reign in the lectures when she could. “He might, he might” she admitted when Willow shared her fear of Killian moving on. “But, and this is in no way a certainty. It could be that the time you’ve spent with him has changed him somewhat. The Killian I met at Christmas was not the same Killian I avoided before you came into the picture. Perhaps…perhaps if you were to tread very cautiously. You might find him willing to try and change his behavior…….just don’t give it all away the first time he smiles at you ok!?” She hadn't meant that last part to be a lecture but even she had her limits, and she really didn’t want her friend to get hurt. If a kiss had been enough to upset her, imagine what sex could do if Killian were to revert to old ways she thought to herself.

  16. Get my attention?! Oh! Well those pranks certainly got my attention all right!! She couldn’t have just said ‘Hi I’m Evelyn, nice to meet you, what’s your name?’ I mean is it that hard to be a decent human being? Argggggggghhhhhhh. You see? This is what I mean, I want to wring her stupid neck with my bare hands but I also want to…to…well it’s a very lovely neck ok?.” Samantha had kept her emotions in check for most of her life, buried down so that she could better fulfill the role her father had put on her, so she could accomplish the goals she had set for herself, but now that she had released them there was no stopping the torrent.

Calming down a bit she began to realize just what those pranks might have meant. “I mean, she didn’t prank any of the other girls, not like she did to me. She really did put a lot of thought into them….am I special to her?” Samantha was in one word, proud. She prided herself in her maturity, she prided herself in her restraint, and she prided herself in always being the bigger person. When Helena suggested a second option, one a little less scrupulous, Smantha prided herself in throwing that all away; at least for just this one moment. “Ohhhhhhh I know exactly what option I want to choose Helena.” she confirmed.

She had attempted in the past to get some payback and pull a few pranks on Evelyn but Samantha just wasn’t cut out for these sorts of games. Those pranks had, at best, been ‘G-Rated’ with one attempt going completely unnoticed by Evelyn at all. But now, she had her own secret weapon, her own Aphrodite friend to help her out. “Ok, tell me everything, what all do you have in mind for some playful payback?” she asked, grinning ear to ear at the possibilities.

  17. Samantha thought she detected just the trace outline of a faint smile spreading over Helena's face. She couldn’t fault the girl, if she wasn’t so mortified herself she could see the humor in the situation. But Samantha was mortified, oh was she ever! She’d almost regretted even coming to Helena in the first place, but….and this was quite a big but… it did feel good to let it out all, even if it wasn’t in the most graceful manner. “Well this…love…” she shuttered, still not used to calling it that “it certainly qualifies for not making sense. Oh thank Athena you find her annoying too! I don’t think a single season has passed at camp where she hasn’t pulled some kind of prank on me. I guess all the attention must have sparked in me some kind of…feelings for her. To be honest, I’ve always found girls to be pretty but until now they were never feelings I wanted to act on. Before Evelyn I’ve never met a girl I wanted to…be with…in that kind of way, you know? But there’s just something about her…..” Samantha drifts into her own thoughts, trying to practice feeling ok thinking about her and Evelyn together in an intimate setting.

She wasn’t shocked to hear that Evelyn was bi too, unlike her, the girl wasn’t shy at all about her sexual preferences. What did draw her interest though was Helena's offer of a scheme. Samantha wasn’t usually comfortable with schemes and sneaky plans, but if she was honest with herself she was way out into uncharted territory and if Helena was going to be her guide then she’d need to trust her instincts. “You mean….she might have similar feelings…towards me?” she said, trying to piece it all together. “So what do you have in mind then?” Samantha felt that if she was going to make this work, she’d have to be willing to get her hands a little dirty.

  18. No longer content with circling around her, Levi came up close to confront her now. His voice sounded like soft silk, he was very handsome, but Samantha knew better than to fall for his charms, or these promises that she’d enjoy seeing any of his more powerful spells’. She’d learned about many of her fellow camper’s unique gifts through interacting with them (sometimes in the form of lecturing) or witnessing them in person. Knowledge of Aphrodite gifts alluded her though because honestly those campers kind of unnerved her. She would never admit to being scared of them per say, she just couldn’t stand being around them long enough to learn much. And yet here were these two that just loved tormenting her!

I don’t know what you’re trying to hint at Levi but I’m sure it’s just as nasty as your other ‘gifts’ and I want no part of it!” She believed Aphrodite campers to be a mostly cowardly lot working in gossip and rumors so when she saw Levi whisper something to his sister her nerves got the better of her. “What are you plotting at Levi!? More pranks? You know I have half a mind to grab my training sword and show you a few gifts of my own! Maybe it would knock some decency into you!

If Levi got under her skin just now, Evelyn practically lived there. Nothing she could say at the girl ever seemed to get to her. No lectures ever changed her behavior, no clever barbs or comebacks ever seemed to unnerve her, the girl was completely unchanging. Maybe that’s what bugged Samantha the most, someone she couldn’t convince through argument. Evelyn was content and happy to live her life exactly the way she wanted; there was a certain freedom there that Samantha envied but would never admit to herself. And now here she was, forced to confront her rival, but it felt more like falling in a trap than a level confrontation. Samantha was rarely ever at a loss of words but this Aphrodite girl always seemed to manage to make her stumble. Her skin felt hot now and she didn’t know if that was from anger, embarrassment or…something else?

Evelyn was talking about love, happiness, someone to understand you, all things Samantha knew she wanted but always seemed difficult to hold onto. But how would Evelyn ever know about these things?!? Her confusion only grew the closer Evelyn got to her until their faces were only inches apart. “....yes…” she said, admitting that she did indeed want those things. As soon as the word escaped her mouth though she regretted it, that was something she would never admit outloud, let alone to Evelyn! Was admitting your secrets another Aphrodite power she was unaware of? She felt like she was burning now, the heat spreading over her whole body until she must have been practically radiating it. “But why do you care if I do? What kind of help?” She regretted asking the questions, revealing more of herself to Evelyn, but something in her wanted, needed to know the answers.

  19. Samantha’s initial happiness over seeing her friend gave way to concern when it became apparent that Willow was quite distressed. Leading the girl to the corner of the porch where they could have a little privacy away from any prying ears inside the Athena cabin. Samantha had strict rules against gossiping but that hadn’t always stopped her younger siblings from engaging in it. “Oh Willow, that’s wrong?” She focused all her attention on her hurting friend trying to gently coax out whatever it was that was troubling her. “Something stupid…” she started, getting an idea of where this could be headed “No, no lectures today, just a friend supporting a friend” she responded with a smile, wrapping her arm around Willow in solidarity.

Oh my!” she proclaimed when Willow finally revealed the source behind her worried demeanor. “You kissed him? Killian!” her mind raced to process all this new information. On one hand this could be disastrous, Killian had been one of several playboys at camp that she did NOT approve of, however, she herself had recently had an extended encounter with the wild Irishman during his Christmas party and was presently conflicted on how she now felt about him. She supposed that of all the boys Willow could have kissed, Killian was probably the least dangerous.

While it probably wasn’t the wisest move to make…” she paused, trying to figure out the best choice of words. “Well, I guess what I’m trying to say is, I’ve learned some more about Killian over the holidays that has made me reevaluate the man in a more positive light. But first let’s start from the beginning. What exactly happened and more importantly how do you feel about it?” If she was going to advise her friend she would need to hear how this had impacted her.
