  1. Akemi looked up, focus disturbed. The shadows curled at the sudden interruption, and gathered around her palm like a pet clinging to its owner. "Messing with magic. I'd rather not subject myself to such torture at the horrendous weather," she commented, letting the shadows swirl and shape, then letting it disperse back into the darkness. "Besides, in here is a nice place to practice umbrakinesis...the shadows in here are stronger, and the ambiance and silence makes it all the more better." she rested her arm on the armrest and put her chin in her hands. She had seen her half-sibling around before, always running about in the cabin, with some books on a topic she wasn't really sure about.

"I would like to safely assume you're in here the same reason as I, no?" she tilted her head, curious. "After all, it seems that most of our siblings have departed to endure the weakness of sunlight."

  2. "The weather outside is horrendous...and people expect me to get out of here." she sighed as she flicked the blinds closed with simple telekinesis, plopping down on the couch, feeling the curious shadows in the corner coming over to her. She was bored out of her mind, and no way in her right mind would she go out in this...disturbingly extreme weather, so she resided to have the shadows gather in her palm and lazily float, swirl, like a small fish. She had a soft smile on her face as they did so. The shadows, were like a pet to her. A little companion, an ally. She did not control them, she had a sort of symbiotic relationship. The shadows provided strength, and she respected them in return.

She messed with them, as if they were a spool of string, making a cat's cradle between her fingers, then letting them disperse. She didn't expect any of her siblings to approach her, as they all seemed to keep to themselves. So she sat cross legged on the couch, messing with her magical powers like a child would play with a doll. She always was fascinated by her abilities, and she tended to keep experimenting with them as such. @ Asher Harrington

  3. She let the wind blow behind her, like a tailwind, its chill supporting her and giving slight strength. She could feel the shadows' presence cowering in the sun, and bit her lip in the guise of that challenge. Not that they would abandon her in that time of need, but she took a deep breath as she felt her magic coursing through her veins. Like a heartbeat, syncing up with hers. She liked the prospect of a challenge, but she only had her knife on her, which would be hard to fight with...curse her for not bringing her sword.

She felt hesitant to strike first, but she could feel the familiar chill of magic curling around her hands, as she steadied her eyes on her opponent. "Let's do something simple...first blood wins. How does that sound to you?" she exhaled, feeling the shadows waiting on the sidelines, in the nosebleeds, ready to assist and to strike. Akemi was nervous, with the prospect of an extra challenge, but she was ready to try her hardest in this bout.

  4. Akemi just looked back and forth between all of the campers, from Sage to Mateo to Levi. In what world, did sitting in the corner, begging silently not to be noticed, result in attracting the notorious player of the camp...Akemi thought to herself of all the times she nearly stumbled upon Levi in the woods, with his newest girl plaything. She bit her lip at the thought, crossing her arms.

When Sage defended her from Levi's comments, she couldn't help but feel relieved, but instead settled to just staring at him and as well as Mateo for a brief moment. A shame, Akemi would enjoy being friends with the two, but Mateo was elusive, and Levi would probably try and ending up banging her in the first place, so she cast her eyes away to the court, letting the shadows swirl a bit closer like a protective blanket.

  5. Akemi just looked up at Levi, tilting her head, purely out of curiosity. "Akemi. You must be the notorious Levi I see so much around camp, huh?" she took caution in talking to him, but hid her tone. Lest she become one of his little girl toys he could hookup with- she prayed he didn't take an interest like her, like flies to honey.

She sat back, messing with the hem of her jacket. "Nah, I don't plan to play, I like watching everyone run around and be competitive, without having the need to run around myself. How about you, hm?" she was genuinely curious, resting her chin her hands, gazing out at everyone about to play. She hoped she didn't get hit by the ball, but with her luck, she probably would.

  6. Akemi looked up at Mateo. Her half-brother, and the sibling she noted to see the least of. "Hello to you too," she had responded, looking up at him. She could feel the shadows curling in his presence, as if intimidated. "I prefer to watch this all unfold. I'm not one for team sports in the slightest, and you?" she tilted her head, curious as to what he would be doing.

She was surprised he even came to talk to her, as she always observed him off on his own. She glanced at Sage for a brief second before twirling a lock of hair around her finger once more.

  7. "How entertaining to witness," she said when Sage mentioned Evelyn once more, looking at her. The Aphrodite girl looked like she came out of a seedy place in New York's sexual industry, not from camp, but she cleared her throat to try and hide the giggles in that thought welling up in her throat.

She turned to Sage once more, raising an eyebrow when she said she wasn't dating Loukas. "Really now? Well, best of luck." she said teasingly, but she was quietly rooting for the both of them. She was younger, but she seemed friendly enough. Quite sweet, in her opinion.

When she asked if she was a year round camper, she hummed in response. "I am planning to attend school in New Rome sometime, but come back periodically. Sure, people here don't know me, but I know a lot about them sometimes," she ran a hand through her hair, ruffling it, "And they're all very fun to watch. The shadows here seem to favor me as well," she let the wispy silks of darkness gather around her palm, then dispersed them as she blew them towards the court. "So I don't think I'll be going just yet."

  8. "Oh, what a crying shame," she replied, her response thick with dry wit, "I think I'd prefer you as a ferret," she looked at the weather in distaste. Sunny...not a pleasant day. She cast a look over at him, twirling a lock of hair around her finger once more, "Personally, monsters are more fun to me at times. I am aware I lack more capabilities than most campers here, but that is the price to pay for being a spectral among the living." her lips, painted blood red, pursed into a thin line. "Nonetheless, I'd be willing to combat you- it's good to know that I have a possible ambulance ready if I so happen to get shot in the shoulder."

She took his words with regards of meeting his half-siblings to heart, as sighed and thought to herself. "Fine, perhaps I will meet them... people watching is filled with nothing but romantic drama at the moment. Don't get me wrong, a lovers' quarrel is great to watch," mischief flashed through her eyes, "But really now, must it always be like that?" she cut short as they approached the clearing, the shadows rescinding at the brief light, but nonetheless, their presence returned once more after a small while.

"So it seems we're in your territory, sunshine." she said, crossing her arms. "Don't go easy on me regardless, mkay?"

  9. Akemi walked alongside him, the shadows trailing behind her. "Spells...they're my forte. I rarely fight otherwise. Why would I? Combat is best left to the more experienced campers." she smiled at the ghost girl nickname. As he mentioned half sibling, sparks went off in her head, realizing something.

"Forgive me, but could you possibly be referring to Asher and Tristan? I've seen them practicing in Cabin 20...rather interesting." she chuckled as she swirled shadows in her palm, like ribbons of smoky black silk, as she let them hover. "I'd help them, but they seem to have it fully under control, I think I'd leave them to their own devices." she glossed over the fact of meeting him, but did comment on it, "I prefer to try and not interact with my siblings much. They all have their own lives, and although we share a parent, it should not be obligation to interact with them much. I do hope to talk to one of them one day; I'm interested to see how their magical abilities are."

She sighed, gently, breezy chills spreading through out her body as she dispersed the shadows. "Not to say that this little walk isn't fun and all, but where are we headed?

  10. Akemi chuckled, watching the Athena girl run in. "Heh, I've heard about that. The shadows are a good place to spy on others from," she commented. She had never interacted with Samantha, though she had heard that she was the camp's 'resident parent,' of sorts.

"I remember spotting what happened a while ago- I think, a couple years ago?" she smirked as Sage pointed out Evelyn, she sighed. "I didn't expect her to be here..." she mumbled, looking at her. Akemi knew that she was the cause of the prank, but it didn't hurt to mention she disliked the Aphrodite kids. God forbid one of them hit her up and ask to hookup...she'd rather be infected by shadows again than hookup with anyone, let alone an Aphrodite kid...she disliked their nature, but refused to voice this aloud, lest she be the next victim of their wrath.

As Sage said her name, Akemi turned to her, tilting her head slightly. "Oh yeah, you're dating my half-brother, right?" her tone was light and teasing, "Nice to have a proper face to the name. Pleasure to meet you as well.

  12. Hello there, Dusk here!

So, what are Drabbles, if you may ask?

It's my way of listing just random quirks and habits of my characters, giving them a little more realistic character. Like favorite foods, hobbies, etc, that aren't included in their backstories.

I often list them line by line, like this:

    -

    -

    -

But that's up to you, if you choose to take inspiration 🙂

They're often very short, like 1-2 sentences, and they can be rather long!

But it's up to you what you decide entirely 🙂

  13. Name: Akemi Lancaster

    Years of Fighting Experience: 3-4

    Abilities:

-Can cast an array of spells, being a Hecate kid

-Can summon fire, not as powerful as a Hephaestus kid but can cast fire magic

-Can conceal presence, making it harder to be detected

-Can manipulate shadows, has the ability of Umbrakinesis

-If strong enough, she could summon Greek fire

-Can freeze things, briefly, not as strong as any child of the Big 3 but enough to make people slip on a puddle of ice

Preferred Weapon of Choice: A Celestial Bronze tachi, nicknamed Arashi (Tempest) and an extra Celestial Bronze wakizashi (smaller, like a knife)

    Strengths:

-Very skilled in spellcasting, can cast up to 10 different spells (not at once) without exhaustion

-Agile, years of avoiding others have allowed her to be quick on her feet and good at escaping

-Her umbrakinesis abilities give her an edge sometimes

-She can use a tachi sword rather well

    -She is observant and intelligent

    Weaknesses:

-She is not strong, often resorting to a specialized sword used for stabbing, slicing, etc.

-When using Umbrakinesis, the shadows 'infect' her, causing extreme chills and muscle cramps due to their darkened nature, and if she controls them too much, she could very easily be left vulnerable to attacks.

-She lacks experience in other weapons.

-She lacks full contact combat abilities, such has hand to hand. She often results to more of an 'assassin' kill to avoid fighting others head on, as she could very easily lose.

-She is not aware that Hecate kids can manipulate the Mist, and thus, is very bad and lacks all experience in it.

Other: Akemi is not the best at swordplay, but she definitely could fight less experienced monsters and such if given the chance. Her abilities are at their best during the full moon, as it is when shadows are at their wildest, and when her magic courses through her veins.

She had almost neglected non-magical combat entirely, relying on magic perhaps a little too much, which can lead to her being easily defeated by disarming her with her sword and combating her in a more sunny area, which weakens her umbrakinesis as well as her overall magical prowess.

She does not know Mist manipulation is a thing, therefore lacking experience and knowledge in that area, but she is by no means a pushover and can hold her own, but not for long in some circumstances.

She can summon fire, bring forth ice, conceal presence, cast a magical barrier, and manipulate and levitate things through minor telekinesis. If casting too many spells in succession, casting too many spells at once, casting more than 10 spells in a day, and 30 in a week, she begins to receive extreme headaches, fatigue, chills, and nausea/dizziness, and if she keeps pushing herself, she could lose her ability to cast spells entirely for days, weeks, etc.

Outside of her magical abilities, she is very acrobatic and quite fast, great at spying and stealth missions, but lacks strength and proper battle intelligence as she always goes out of her way to not combat others, sometimes not fighting them entirely, slashing throats before clashing blades.

She is currently learning to shadow travel with her abilities, if she even can...

    Ranking:

    Strength 2/5

    Speed 3/5

    Stamina 3/5

    Intelligence 3/5

    Agility 4/5

  14. Tempered Blades

Welcome to Tempered Blades, where I (Dusk) keep track of my character's abilities in combat!

I often struggle with remembering what they exactly do sometimes, what they're best in, what they lack in- if they even fight at all,

so I made this to help keep track of how my characters fight!

Feel free to take inspiration from this if you'd like 🙂 enclosed is a template of what I will be using!

Stats should not surpass 15 total, for balance 🙂

  15. Akemi turned to Sage, who had approached her. She smiled, slightly, perhaps out of fondness, or respect, but it was hard to tell with her. She had always seen her around her half-sibling, Loukas, but nonetheless didn't feel entirely motivated to interact with most of them. She was surprised Sage knew her name, though.

"I'm more of an observer, if anything." she crossed her arms, particularly looking back at forth at Makayla, then Theodore. "Some of them are too...boisterous or competitive for my liking. It's interesting to see them all butt heads over this, nonetheless."

  16. "I see. Very well then," she shook his hand in return, putting her hands back in her jacket pockets afterward. She did enjoy watching him in particular- always had an eye on him. She barely made many friends at camp, which was not a result of her demeanor (though sometimes it would be) but in fact, simply refusing to interact with most people entirely. But Elijah always fascinated her. She didn't understand why- and she intended to find out.

She could feel the shadows curling behind her, curious at her new interaction, but chose to ignore their growing presence, as she chuckled at the ghosting comment. "I'm very well, thank you. And..." she trailed off, caught off guard by the request. "Training would be nice. Too many people gather at lunchtime sometimes, and anywhere I go there's nosy dryads, or perhaps the occasional campers making out." she said, sighing. "Besides, some training would do me some good. I rarely practice anyway.

She did know how to fight with a sword, but nonetheless she had never crossed blades with a real person. She learned by watching the best fighters at camp, and by the cover of the night, swinging and remembering the minute details of fighting with it. Technique over experience. Spells were more her thing, stretching her limits to how many she could cast, and especially her control over shadows. Both she were equally strong- and rather good at, if she had to be the judge of it.

"You think you'd be down for a little training, sunshine boy?" she called him that teasingly, with a small smile on her face.

  17. Off to the corner, hidden in the shadows, the child of Hecate lurked, watching everyone gather, was the child of Hecate, sat in the shadows. She had recognized everyone gathering near, (the perks of a people watcher, she'd suppose,) and made a tsk noise as more people gathered. Sooner or later, she might be dragged into all of this. She was not a very 'team sports' and competition sort of person, she left it up to the Nike, Athena, and Ares kids to get riled up over a spherical sport with a white ball and a net.

"With the steady stream of people trickling in, it won't be long until I may be dragged into this," she mumbled, flicking her gaze back and forth between all the people gathering. "But the more people who come, the more likely I'll be able to sneak away without notice- hopefully." She wrapped her flannel jacket tighter around her, beckoning the shadows to aid her in keeping her almost virtually invisible to everyone gathering. Gods forbid someone drag her into this. That's when there'd be the most trouble.

  18. Akemi's lips drew into another smirk, amused at his embarrassment, as he introduced himself as "Elijah." She had seen him often around camp, as the Apollo kid who would scurry around, like a ball of sunshine, trying to help anyone new out, always assisting others whenever he could. Of course, they had never interacted, not once, but she knew who he was.

An idea popped into her head, twirling her hair around her finger in slight amusement, as she replied. "Akemi. Child of Hecate." she held her hand out, hesitantly at first, hoping to shake his hand. Someone like him, would be...of use to her. Someone who knew many people, the center of information. Perhaps maybe, she would give this bright child of Apollo a little bit of her time, and in return, receive a good amount of information- maybe she could find more places to explore around here- and disappear back into the shadows the minute she had received everything she could from him.

"I was watching you practicing archery with the younger campers," she crossed her arms. "But doesn't Chiron usually do that? Of course, it's none of my business, but..." she made a tsk noise with her tongue, "Curiosity, you know?"

  19. The woods were her sanctuary for the moment, for Akemi at least. Her half-siblings always busied themselves with other matters, and of course, it wasn't in her nature to interact with new people.

So she took it upon herself to retreat to places where most wouldn't cross or look for her. Speak with her. From the roof of the Big House, to down by the arena at dawn, she stayed there, watching those who went about their lives. Like how the goddess Hestia tended the hearth at the center of the camp, always present, but almost never acknowledged.

Her favorite place to frequent was the woods, to climb the trees, although monsters liked to come and go, sniffing out her scent. Yet she liked the little risk of danger and being caught. She saw many things (and things she probably was never meant to see, at that,) from the trees, from bushes, leaning against rocks in the shadows.

It was a typical, depressing sunny morning. She didn't want to stay indoors, as dreadful as the weather was- how typical of her- but she ended up going back to the woods again, sitting and staring at the golden sky for what seemed like hours.

She had been watching the young archers take lessons at the hand of an Apollo kid (per usual,) but once she saw what it was, a smiled softly curled on her lips as she climbed down from the tree, hopping on the ground with her hands in her pockets, landing on a twig, resounding the noise of a crack.

"Before you shoot an arrow through my skull," she held up her hands as a peaceful gesture, "I'm not here to kill you."

    Info!

    Hello there, I'm Dusk!

Here you'll find my characters' plotters, trackers, etc.

🙂 So far, Akemi is the only one here, but I hope that's soon to change!

  20. 480x200

A bit stiff at first, often going out of her way to go unnoticed by others or to not talk to other people. Simply put, she likes people, and goes out of her way to watch others. This can lead to awkward, hostile, or tense encounters with others due to misunderstandings and boundaries. Akemi often is a bit oblivious to societal norms and boundaries, becoming quiet and meek in the company of many, and cutting off friendships when they are too emotional, as she feels that she has learned all she needs about one particular person and tries to move on from them.

She has an affinity for exploration, often wandering around camp on her own time, or practicing spells and testing their limits. She can be friendly and a good listener if you're interesting enough to her, which is not hard to be in her eyes, and gives good advice when prompted, going out of her way to help people at times. She's calm, rational yet emotionally guided, curious and open minded.

    biography

A descendant from a long line of Shinto priests, (Kannushi,) her father was a renowned priest in their district, in Osaka, Japan before Akemi was born.

Due to domestic disputes, his first wife divorced him and took custody of his other mortal daughter, Kaede, he ended up encountering a woman which he assumed was a god from his very religion, who admired his dedication to the religion and traditions, and fell in love with her, eventually bearing a child by the name of Akemi, given to him in a cradle by the god he thought was a kami, revealing herself to be Hecate, goddess of magic and witchcraft.

He was afraid, of what he had done, ashamed of his actions and viewing them as sinful, and decided to move him and his newborn daughter to America; for a better opportunity and to avoid a scandal amongst their religious community.

Both of them settled in Chicago, Illinois, USA. A year or two later, after his citizenship was granted, he met a young mortal woman, and married her rather quickly, perhaps too quickly, desperate for a new life. Wanting a fresh start, he changed his last name to hers in order to not be found easily by his old community.

Akemi was often treated as a 'side piece' to her father's perfect ideal family. Even when her mortal half-brother, Nathaniel, was born, Akemi was often pushed to the background while her father and his new wife tried to seem as normal as possible, with a new, normal child to boot. Everyone who was acquainted with the family assumed Akemi was just a result of a previous marriage. Even then, her father was very restrictive, often making demands and excuses to ground her, punish her, so that she would be hidden from the world, like she did not exist in the first place. Controlling how she looked, where she went, what she did, and who she made friends with, she spent the majority of her younger years reading and watching from the shadows as her younger brother was spoiled and often encouraged to ignore her, treat her as if she did not exist as well, leading to a very strained relationship between the two.

It was not until she was in 6th grade when she discovered that the shadows had an affinity to come to her, shield her, and play an influencing role in keeping her "invisible" and "unnoticed." she did not learn to control this ability voluntarily, but became aware that there was something about her that wasn't...normal like the other kids. She learned to watch others, observe minute details, while having the shields covet and shield her, helping her not be noticed.

When her 13th birthday came closer, Akemi began to get fed up by her father's restrictive lifestyle. So, as a simple and expressive act of defiance, she snuck out and, while stealing from her spoiled younger brother's excessive amount of allowance, bought some simple dye, and dyed her hair simply with streaks of brown and blonde, which caused her father to become outraged.

"I tell you to do simple things, and you can't even do it?" Her father had said sharply, jabbing his pointer finger into his chest.

"Oh, I'm very sorry that I can't just pretend I don't exist, to be nothing but a waste of space in your ideal life!" she had retorted. "I'm your daughter, not a doll. I'm no parent, but I'm pretty damn sure you shouldn't lock your kid in a room all day, with barely any food and water, not to mention sunlight? Grow up."

In an outrage following her comment, he had swung his hand and smacked her, pushing her to the ground, but pulled her head up by the hair.

"YOUR MOTHER WASN'T EVEN HUMAN, AND NEITHER ARE YOU!" he spat, tugging on her hair as if he wanted to rip it off.

Crying out in pain, she could feel a cold presence swirling. The darkness in the room called to her, begging her to use them, begging her to take control.

In a piercing scream, she thrust her hands out to push him off her, but the darkness crept from the corners, lashing out like tendrils of night, binding him by his arms and legs.

In the commotion, the stepmother and Nathaniel came running in, shrieking for her to let him go, trying to subdue her to stop, which startled her and caused her to drop him, confused on what she had controlled, that cold feeling in her dissipating.

In all of the chaos, the neighbors had called a noise complaint in on the family, and an officer was on their way to the scene.

As they tried to explain everything to the officer, Akemi noted that he shuffled his feet a lot, as if his shoes didn't fit, and his blue cap had been placed awkwardly upon his head, and they had kept making noises like...bleating? No, impossible...

While she got up to approach the door, to get a closer look, her father had seized her by the arm and threw her forward.

"...yes, Officer, my daughter here had picked me up by my throat, thrown me against the wall, screaming about how we're being such terrible parents," he feigned his fright and kept clutching his throat. "Take her away, officer, oh, do please take her away," he burst into tears, clutching his wife and son, and nudging the confused teen forward, trying to resist.

As she was cuffed and shoved into the police car, she struggled against her restraints as the officer driving turned to look at her.

"Now now, demigod, easy. I'm here to help you."

"...Pardon?" she had stopped struggling and stared at him, puzzled.

The officer took off his hat, revealing a rather pointy set of horns, and kicked off his shoes, revealing hooves, like a horse's...or were they more goat like?

"The name's Goji. Y'know, like the berry. Heh. Listen kid, your little outburst out there- ooh wee, that's a fun way to alarm all the monsters in the area!"

Naturally, she began demanding answers, trying to break out of the car herself, believing she was being kidnapped by a lunatic, until Goji had revealed that he was a satyr, posing as a police officer, and tried to explain to her that she was a demigod, more specifically, daughter of the goddess Hecate, and that he had been trying to reach out to her in order to help, and after overhearing a noise complaint being called to her house, he decided to intercept it by putting the officer driving there to sleep via some flute/song magic, stealing his clothes, and making a quick drive over there.

Their car was eventually attacked by a hellhound, flipping it over and wrecking it, so they made their way on foot, all the way to Camp Half-Blood, a month before she turned 13, being claimed two weeks later. She had a peaceful time there, being sent off on a quest once during her time, and learning about her abilities and powers, testing her limits to cast spells, and eventually taming her umbrakinetic abilities, through years of practice, along with spells, but she cannot efficiently manipulate the Mist (due to being unaware of the ability in the first place)She eventually also learned how to fight with a sword, by observing others' techniques but never actually sparring with anyone, she became a (metaphorical) ghost to the camp, almost, spending the majority of her time in the woods, fighting monsters, and observing the lives of others around her, a true wallflower.

    Personality
