Marianne and Fitzwilliam Gray longed to have a child for years. It has been nearly a decade since they were wed, however, they haven't been blessed with a child to complete their family. Marianne insisted they could adopt a child, but Fitzwilliam had always wanted to have a child of his own. It has been the root of many arguments for the couple.

Everything changed when Fitzwilliam brought a black haired infant into the Gray household. Marianne was mad that she wasn't consulted about the adoption; only for Fitzwilliam to confess that he was the father of the infant he brought home. He didn't disclosed who was the mother of the baby he brought home which only irked Marianne more.

The arrival of Theodore Gray has been a blessing and a curse. It was a blessing to Fitzwilliam who wanted to have a son, and a curse for Marianne. She felt like it was a slap on her face that she can't bear any children. She tried her best to love the boy and be his mother, but it kept reminding her of her husband's betrayal.

It has been a secret in the Gray household that Theodore wasn't Marianne's son. The boy grew up thinking that Marianne was his mother. He tried his best to make his parents proud despite causing an ocassional mischief and doing reckless things like climbing trees. However, nothing seemed to be enough for his 'mother' as she always find fault in whatever he did. He loved his parents despite their flaws. His father seemed to care enough for him but his presence was a rare occurence in the house as he was often out for work.

Even as a child, Theo was shown to be a night owl, feeling more energized at night compared to the mornings where his energy seemed to be depleted somehow. There were strange incidents inside the manor, but it was mostly blamed by his mother and house helper to his overly active imagination. Like the time where he became invisible when he went at the dark corner of the room to hide from his mother, and bizarrely travelling from his room to his parents' when there was a sudden blackout inside the manor one stormy evening.

One night, Theodore's sleep was startled when he heard noises outside his room. His jaw nearly dropped on the ground when he saw a monster crashing their living room. He saw his parents staring at the monster as well. It can't be all a dream, the boy thought to himself. "Darling, take Theo and run!" He heard his father said, and his mother did so with tears pouring down from her face.

Everything has been a blur that night for Theo. All he could recall was running away with his mother and staying in a motel. He asked his mother about his father when Marianne shook the little boy blaming him from what's happening. Marianne confessed that she could never truly love him and that she should have saved Fitzwilliam than him. It made Theo confused and angry, running away from the hotel. He remembered encountering another monster but a satyr came to his aid and led him to Camp Halfblood.

Camp Halfblood has been an entirely different experience than his home. He was claimed by his real mother Hecate. It was explained to him by his cabin leader that he was a demigod and that he cannot go back home to keep his mother safe. Theo would argue that there was never a home to get back to for him especially with Marianne's revelation. He flourished at the Camp finding himself at truly at home with his fellow halfbloods.

While it wasn't easy for Theo to make friends, he enjoyed the camp activities. He preferred activities that could be done at night since it was where he felt the strongest. He might have indulge himself from a few pranks here and there, but nothing harmful that would lead him into serious trouble. He was particularly keen in learning more about umbrakinesis which the cabin leader has explained to him. He felt relief that all the strange occurence in his childhood weren't his imagination but it was a manifestation of his power.

He enjoyed learning about his abilities together with his friends. He was prone to use darkness to conceal himself especially if he was playing a prank on someone and escape trouble. It has been years since he walked into the camp yet he didn't feel like leaving the place. Exploring his activities and watching his control over it made him feel exhilarating. He wouldn't like to experience feeling powerless again like the night where his father was attacked by a monster. It crossed his mind to become a counselor in the near future but he wasn't so sure if he's ready for the responsibility yet.
 

Personality

What you see is what you get with Theo. He found it a challenge to fake his emotions, finding it easy to show his annoyance at someone with sarcastic remarks. Theo possessed a daredevil attitude that amplified after learning that he was a halfblood. He seemingly fear nothing, like putting himself in danger during some of the camp's activities. He was also adept in combat and a quicklearner, however, this cause him to be arrogant that sometimes lead to his failure.

An easy-going person among the flock, it wasn't difficult for him to get along with people. He would often put people at a distance, afraid to get hurt. However, those who were able to penetrate the walls that Theo built around himself found that he has a great sense of loyalty and would do anything to protect them.
