The Red team was given one directive, they were to head to the western part of the woods and set their flag. At noon, the team trekked into the forest, and managed to set their flag. Hopefully it would be protected well enough to prevent the blue team from finding it.

RPC # 1 Camouflage yourself.

Derrick made sure last year to stick by Azrael, but not this year! He was ready to hide and strike anyone who might come near his team's flag. With a smirk on his face he blended in with the background. It had taken him some time but he found some paint to paint his face with browns, greens and blacks. Making it hard for those around him to see his tiny body in the brush. With no one in sight he laid in the brushes as it hid him so well. Ready to take on someone who might come steal his flag. This was a bit scary last year but this year he had been at camp one whole year. Wondering where Octavia was, he sat and waited to see who would show!

It was capture the flag time again! The previous year had been a whirlwind for Emberlynn - darting from flag to flag, getting into verbal bouts with Sir Azrael in which she felt much cooler than she probably sounded... But this year, a slightly different child was stepping out onto the field. A more developed, more confident character. Having gotten to know some of the other campers, her sense of teamwork was at a much more stable place than it had been during the previous event. She adjusted her helmet, a gift from her friend TJ. She'd grown quickly in physical stature as well, she realized. Last year this helmet had sat large and awkward on her head. Now it barely concealed her multicolored hair from view.

She set out toward the Western part of the woods, hand clasped tightly around the hilt of her sword.  Ever since the scorpion attack, the open forest made her a bit uneasy. One could never really tell what was lurking in these bushes. Speaking of... a flash of red caught her eye. She drew her blade, prepared for an assault by one of her red-cloaked adversaries. But the fabric was not a uniform, nor a helmet plume. It was a flag! The flag! Emberlynn couldn't believe her luck! She rushed in to make a pass at it, perhaps a bit reckless with her first charge of the game.

Derrick's heart raced with anticipation as he lay concealed in the brush, his eyes scanning the surroundings for any signs of movement. He knew that capturing the flag required a mix of patience and quick reflexes. Suddenly, he caught a glimpse of movement in his peripheral vision. His grip tightened around the handle of his slingshot, and he readied himself to strike. As Emberlynn charged towards the flag, her determination was evident. Derrick recognized her from their previous encounters at camp, but he couldn't let that distract him. With a swift, calculated motion, he rose from his hiding spot, slingshot in hand. Taking aim, he released a small projectile towards Emberlynn, aiming to divert her attention and slow her down.

"Ack!"

Emberlynn let out a small squeak as a stone landed at her feet, seemingly from nowhere. She spun around, eyes darting from bush to bush. Her hand clenched tighter around her sword. "Who goes there!?" She meant to sound confident, but her voice wavered. Who was it? A red team member? Or a monster? Finally her eyes fell on the source of the attack. A boy, quite young even by camp standards. He must've been discovered by the satyrs fairly early on in life. Seeing him standing there with slingshot in hand, her blade lowered.

"My apologies," she stated. Emberlynn was nowhere cruel enough to strike at a slingshot-wielding child with an actual blade. "I had thought you may be a monster!" She smiled a friendly smile, but still moved slowly toward the flag, hoping to make a run with it.

Liam was off a bit, watching the flag for team red. He knew that younger kid.....Azrael's younger brother was closer but that kid was so young he wasn't much of a fighting chance anyways. That was when he saw it....movement. Crouching low he tried to stay out of sight as the rainbow girl and that nemesis kid watched each other. It was enough time for him to hide behind a tree close to the flag when it seemed that young girl was going for the flag. Jumping out from behind the tree, Liam swung his sword as he screamed to scare the girl "AHHHHHHHHHH THIS IS WARRRRRRRR" he said with a smirk as he then was in between Emberlynn and the flag.

""AHHHHH" Emberlynn responded in kind, though her exclamation was more one of panic than a battle cry. Instinctively her skin began glowing. The shimmering, multicolored light illuminated the forest for a moment. Crap! She thought, willing the light to die down. Way to attract the whole red team, Ember! Startled as she was though, she certainly wasn't about to give up. Two against one wasn't ideal. But if she'd take on a full grown combat instructor the previous year, then she could do this too...probably...

Ember paused for a moment, weighing her options. Then she grinned. "War it is then, sir!" She charged in low and fast, preparing to deflect a counterattack should the need arise. She'd see how well those combat classes had served her.

Derrick was beginning to panic when he noticed the older girl in front of him saw him. His eyes got super big as he did not know what to do next but then it was as if the Gods knew and sent a child of ARES coming in with a battle cry. With his mouth wide open he was so shocked as he knew he was not as strong as that camper.  But this did not seem to stop the girl. That was when his own training kicked in. Going for his pile, he began to sling his rocks at her one at a time. One after another as to make her fight on both sides. He might not be good with a one on one fight but he sure could help out his teammates. "AHHHHHHHHH WARRRRRR" he said as he laughed.....he might be getting the hang of this!

Plink!

A rock struck the side of Emberlynn's head, thankfully deflected by old helmet. Thanks again, TJ. It wasn't the first time that gift had saved her from immense pain. Heck, it wasn't even the first time it had aided her in capture-the-flag. The little boy was laughing now, seemingly thrilled that his projectiles had found their mark. "WAAAARRR!" Honestly, it was kind of adorable. Even Ember herself might have found his childlike enthusiasm endearing. That was, if he hadn't been chucking stones at her face of course.

The odds weren't looking good for her here. She blocked another projectile with the flat of her sword. Between the hail of stones and the imposing presence of the Ares boy, it was beginning to look like she was in over her head. Emberlynn stepped back, dodging the older campers sword. She held out her hand as though to block the next strike with her bare hand. With a silent prayer, she felt the warmth of her powers rise up within her. In a moment she let it go, letting out a quick flash from her palm in hopes to momentarily blind her opponent.

So it seemed that his attack had not caught her off guard totally but it was enough to keep her from the flag. It was then when Derrick started to shot rocks at her and actually got her. Impressed by the pip squeak he then tried to fight her again. Giving her a dose of what ares cabin was all about. Liam was caught off guard as Emberlynn unleashed a blinding flash from her palm. He instinctively shielded his eyes with his arm, temporarily disoriented by the sudden burst of light. As his vision slowly cleared, he realized that he needed to stop emberlynn was taking advantage of this. "Take this rainbow lights" he said as he dropped to the ground and used his foot to knock the legs out from under her. She might have an ability but he had years of training more than her.....hopefully her sister petal would not show.

It... it worked!

Her powers had actually done exactly what she asked of them, and in the heat of battle no less! This was actually quite the breakthrough for young Emberlynn, who had spent much of the preceding months trying to understand and hone her ability. Now, in the thick of things, she was startled by how easily it came to her. Unfortunately, that realization had distracted her from her goal. She lost her chance to take advantage of blinding the Ares kid, proven by a sudden blow to her lower legs. "Take this, rainbow lights."

"You missed-" she began, collapsing momentarily to the ground. The strike had not, in fact, missed. Nor was it what she was referring to. She managed to fall forward rather than landing on her bottom. There she crouched for a moment, shifting sideways to dodge another throw. "Pity... you missed the opportunity for a Rainbow Brite reference." Of course, she doubted any Ares camper would be caught dead watching Rainbow Brite. Actually, she realized, it had been over a year now since she herself had been able to watch cartoons. The joke would no doubt fall on deaf ears. Still she grinned up at him, content to have at least amused herself for the moment. Then she reached out directly between her attackers legs. She hoped to catch the flag in her grasp.

Rebecca was excited that the capture the flag event was back again for the summer. She knew how fun it can be since the last one but she didn’t remember how she played the last. She hoped she would play it better this time and participate more to defend their team’s flag. She and the apollos were the healers of the team so they weren’t afraid of getting hurt as she was there to help. Besides , she knew archery best and of course  bits of martial arts that could come in handy if they were to attack or fight each other. Eeep that would be brutal. She was bringing some good archery supplies (replacing arrow with paint balls) when she saw some of them fighting already at their team’s flag. Whoa….. It was as intense as the last. She quickly took one set out and placed the rest of the supplies at the little fort their team had protecting the flags. She saw Derrick charging as well. She quickly took a bow and one of the paint balls , aim it at Emberlynn , one of the blue team, and shoot, stopping her from attacking her teammate Liam

Emberlynn's hand was about to wrap around the flag when it was struck by something. Another of the small child's rocks probably. Whatever it was, it forced to to withdraw her arm. Suddenly, her eyes widened with shock. The hand she had pulled back was covered in a viscous red liquid. Blood! She thought, scrambling backward in a panic. I'm bleeding! She was already reaching into her pack for some bandages by the time she realized that her hand didn't actually hurt all that badly. Surely a wound that caused that much blood would be causing a lot more pain. Perhaps it was the adrenaline of the fight that was keeping her going. Or perhaps... perhaps it was paint.

She blinked, a bit embarrassed with herself. The arts-and-crafts queen should not have taken so long to recognize the consistency of red paint. Still, the strike was rather unexpected. Had the boy brought paintballs along with his rocks? That made no sense though. Even with her rudimentary sense of tactics, she could tell that the trajectory would have been near impossible. But that meant something far worse... a third attacker. She looked around wildly, finally spotting the girl with the bow.

Oh... fiddlesticks... Even in her own mid, the little girl wasn't prone to cursing. Three against one though... if there were ever a time for uncouth language, it would be now. "Some backup would be very much appreciated!" She spoke into the ether, doubting any teammate was around to hear. She made another (likely futile) pass at the flag, praying that someone, anyone would come to aid.

Elena was excited for the event at camp as it was a year round activity so it was pretty precious around camp. Everyone was attending and divided into two teams. She was in the red team and so she had to stay to protect their flag as best as she could along with her team and her siblings as well. She was planning with the others on defending their flag when suddenly some of them were fighting. not really following what was going on, she could only see her brother Liam with another Iris girl on the spot. Fighting. And of course Elena wasn’t just standing and doing nothing. No one messes with her siblings. Her Ares fury was giving off as she charged towards the Iris girl (Emberlynn ) to defend their team.

It seemed her cry had not gone unanswered, as another figure came rushing in her direction. Unfortunately, it was another figure clad in red. Seriously!?! Her mind and heart raced. Four against one!?! No amount of newfound confidence or breakthroughs with her ability could have prepared her for this sort of scenario. Though, she supposed, it wasn't entirely unexpected. She was behind enemy lines after all. Still, last year each flag had been defended by one, maybe two campers? Many of the cabins had gained members this year though, so maybe she should have seen this coming... Ember was torn between frustration with the unfairness of the situation and kicking herself for not coming in more prepared.

Of course there was little time to dwell on her internal conflict. Enemies surrounded her on all sides. Her pulse quickened, and her heart felt about to pound through her chest. She hadn't the brainpower to dim her light now as the panic began to take over. The prismatic light surrounding her pules wildly, as though she were a bomb about to explode. Any more pressure and there was no telling what would happen. She looked about wildly from one opponent to the next. There had to be an opening somewhere...anywhere... she lunged recklessly toward her goal.

There was no way the red team was giving in to the opposing team at all. They were both fighting hard to defend their flags and Elena was part of it , definitely. She was charging towards the Iris girl and she seemed preoccupied before focusing on her brother , but her direction changed towards her. Well at least they weren’t bothering her siblings or teammates. Well then, it was up to her to defend this time, hopefully they would have more here to defend their side. She was buying their team enough time to prepare whatever they were going to by attracting the Iris girl’s attention to her. She wasn’t afraid at all as being an Ares child made her bold, unafraid to attack by her physics. Sure she was tough and she does her training everyday with her siblings. They were like the pack where they hang out the gym often, or the outdoors arena. They were fighters apart from the Athenas, but they were always ready for battle, at least they were trained to be. Weren’t all demigods trained for that? So much for classes and now she had only one focus. She smirked, looking forward to what the Iris girl would do to her. She prepared her fist and was raising it one hand towards the girl and the other stretched out ready to pull the girl down to the ground.

Her grab missed by a good margin, which wasn't shocking as at this point she was moving entirely on instinct. Between the two Ares children and the two ranged combatants, there was nowhere for her to go. Her light pulsed violently in time with her ever-increasing heart rate. A blade swung toward her, then a fist, then another blade. No maiming. Those were the rules, right? She didn't know about the other two, but Ember distinctly remembered that the Ares cabin was known for "forgetting" that rule. "Help!" she cried as the Ares' girl's fist drove into her side. Another rock pelted her in the leg, a paintball splashed across the side of her helmet. "Someone... anyone..." she pleaded.

Mom... please... The light pulsed even brighter around her. There must be some way put. There had to be. She reached out for the flag again, though every time she did she knew the gang of red members would beat her down. If she didn't at least try, then this would all be for naught. There must be someone out there... or some way out of this...

Elena had her fist ready to attack and the other hand reaching for the shoulder or the back of the Iris girl to pull her down to the ground so that she would not try to steal their flag. It was the only way or she feared there might be more from the opponent team to come and attack. She did out of self defense. She was close enough to make that punch but then she heard her cry. She wasn’t at all an attacker by nature and they were definitely quick into action but she thought for a quick millisecond that they might be attacking someone along at defense. She stopped abruptly as she also noticed the sword the Iris girl was holding, while she was weaponless and only used her hand. Well, what should she do next? She backed away next and gave her a chance to stop attempting to steal their flag.

One of the attackers - the Ares girl - paused for a moment. Perhaps they were showing her some sympathy. Or perhaps they simply didn't know what to do with a human strobe light. Either way, that momentary opening left her with three options. She could attack the girl with her sword, possibly try to knock her unconscious with its hilt? But that didn't sit right with Emberlynn. Just as she hadn't wanted to attack the slingshot wielding child, she had no desire to harm an unarmed defender either. Though the welt forming on her side where the first blow had connected did seem to plead for her to consider the option. The second - and the one she should probably take - would be to run. It was four on one here, impossible odds. Surely there would be no shame in making a tactical retreat.

She considered that possibility the longest, but she couldn't bring herself to turn tail and run. If she could just hold out a little longer. Maybe... if the others could find her... So she chose option number three. Keep fighting. Futile as it was, she couldn't let the beating she'd taken so far be for nothing. She knew now what to do with the pulsing light that had been building to immense levels. Raising a hand toward the sky, she called out again. This time though, it sounded a bit less pathetic. "Blue team! To me!" A streak of brilliant red light pierced the sky, sending out a clear message to any of her teammates in the area. This is the spot! The flag is here!

Annie was running to try to find the flag when a stronger than normal light sent her to the west it was red an immediately Annie thought here it is, she didn't run long before she found a brutal sight: the Ares boys were fighting against Emberlynn who seemed to be alone. For the flag and for the girl Annie rushed to help her, she froze a trail of grass and used it to quickly glide directly towards the direction of the fight, her adrenaline racing. She arrived at Emberlynn and immediately divided her from the Ares boys with a small wall of ice that surely would not last long enough. "Hey there! Do you need help or can you handle it?" She smiled at the girl.

Derrick was so shocked to see everything that happened from emberlynn taking on Liam to Rebecca’s and Elena showing up. He sat there as the fighting happened until he came out of it. Getting up he nodded and began to fire at emberlynn again! “For the red team” he said as he put himself in between the flag and her to stop her once again from getting the flag. This was so much more fun than he had thought before. Maybe it was the fact he was growing up or maybe it was that he was becoming heavier but after all he hoped to be a valuable member of the team!

Almost as soon as she had thrown up her signal, a wall of ice suddenly sprung up between Emberlynn and her attackers. Just in time too, as it seemed to others were closing in on her. "Oh, thank the gods!" she panted heavily. "As much as I appreciate the assumption that I can handle this onslaught alone, help would be greatly appreciated!" She grinned back at the girl, thankful to have at least one other person on her side.

Even better, being walled off by ice gave her a chance to introduce herself. "I'm Emberlynn, by the way. I don't believe we've met." They wouldn't have long to speak though, as the little boy was moving into defensive position. She steadied her breath, panic finally fading away. She nodded toward the new arrival, dropping her formal speech pattern slightly for just a moment. "Let's do this, shall we?

A moment ago Elena had noticed that Derrick had been defending their flag so they still had time to drive their opponent away from here.  Elena backed away more while she had no weapon with her. But it was more because she didn’t want to attack someone who is outnumbered. Anyways, she was close to their flag now and she told them about the the message the Iris girl had sent back to their team. And that was a quick move!  "Careful team, more are coming soon! " She hoped there would be more to help to defend their flag. At the same time she was watching over the iris girl’s every moves like a prey.

"Annie, but I think we'll talk better later. Let's do it!" the wall of ice was gradually melting and there was only time for a few brief exchanges of words. The Ares boys were good at it, true, but they too were ready to fight.

Annie smiled and yelled at everyone: "I was looking for a souvenir from this part of the woods and that beautiful flag seems to fit the bill, is it for sale?" and as she said it she hurled a gust of cold air on the Ares kids, while she hoped that the wall would hold enough to allow her teammate to recover her energies. She began to fight as the adrenaline surged, she felt that someone else, guided by the light, would come as a backup.

Liam might have missed but damn it was a good try at least! It had worked on that punk kid Theo but for some reason this rainbow bright girl would not stop. However it didn’t take long until Rebecca and Elena showed up. With a smile he was happy to see the two of them on his side as they kept away the other team. Blocking their tries to capture the flag …time and time again. Even little Derrick was pelting rocks as if it was grandes in a war! All team members had there spots to fill!!! So getting himself together he got back up with his sword ready for a good time. Blocking the next attempt at getting the flag! “We got to work together” he looked at the others on his team with a nod. He was the oldest in this group at least for now.
