The West Woods

The Storyteller

After having their flag captured, the Red team was given a new directive, they were to head out to the West Woods and set their flag within it.

The team trekked through the forest and managed to set their flag. Hopefully it would be protected well enough to prevent the blue team from finding it once more.

Ryo wanted to make use most of his time here at camp. Being an older camper around here requires him to help out at least a little in classes and the events. He gladly helped with setting up and guiding students around, especially the younger ones. He knew how it was important to do so as they would feel out of the place sometimes. He smiled as he was near the flag already.

James crouched behind a thick tree trunk, his heart pounding with anticipation. He peered through the foliage, keeping a close eye on the flag fluttering in the distance. Ryo appearing to him as he was getting closer to the flag. James admired Ryo's dedication, but his focus remained on the task at hand. He tightened his grip on the sword in his hand, ready to spring into action when the signal was given. A mischievous grin spread across his face as he visualized the victory that awaited him. Today, he would prove himself as a formidable contender in this intense game of capture the flag. Jumping out he laughed "Well hello there Ryo."

Being one of the oldest here at camp, Ryo had to say that he would consider the event more and more the usual routine and probably have not seen anything new yet. He thought they might do some improvements to it so that the oldies could have some more fun too. He was reaching for the flag until James came by and stop him. Smiling he knew it would never be that easy even if he played the event numerous times now. “Sup James. How’s the day been going?” He began forming some strategy in his mind while having a chat with him. He knew eventually he would come out with one being an Athena child.

James chuckled, his eyes gleaming with playful determination. "Oh, you know, Ryo, just enjoying the thrill of the game," he replied, his voice laced with mischief. He took a step closer, sword held at the ready, studying Ryo's expression for any sign of weakness. "But today, my friend, victory will be mine," he declared with a smirk. James knew he had to outsmart Ryo, tapping into his wits and agility. He assessed the surroundings, searching for the best way to block Ryo route to the flag while keeping Ryo engaged in conversation. As an Athena child, Ryo was known for his strategic thinking, but James was ready to test his own abilities and push the boundaries of what he could achieve.

Emberlynn approached cautiously, ducking in between the bushes while the two combatants conversed. Once she recognized: Mr. Selway, the counselor who had welcomed her here on her first day of camp. She remembered how nervous she'd been that day, and how much effort she'd put into seeming elegant and composed. A terrified little girl holding her head up high... sometimes she wondered where that girl had gone. This bruised, tired warrior in a dented helmet bore no such mask of elegance. She did, however, have a bit more real confidence. Perhaps that was how these things worked. The more she came into herself, the less she'd need to pretend.

The other boy was one of the Athena campers. She hadn't met him personally, but it was good to see that someone else from the  blue team was here. The last thing she needed was another 4-on-1 fight. She hadn't entirely abandoned her desire to feel dignified after all. Hoping her teammate would provide enough of a distraction, she crept around behind the cabin leader, reaching quietly to snag their goal.

Derrick was just sitting criss cross applesauce, playing in the dirty in the spot james told him to be. Drawing in the dirt he was doing a play by play on how to take down a monster. That was when the sound of the bushes and trees moved as James faced off with an older camper. He was too little to fight that one but he would be backup if needed. He pulled out his sling shot as he pulled it back a time or two just to make sure it still worked before he went back to his plans. Derrick thought he heard something so he looked around “who is there, show yourself? “ He narrowed his eyes as he glared around to see who might be coming for the flag!

Ryo smiled when James mentioned how he was enjoying the games in this event. He too was but he had to be quick in action or the flag would be stolen just in a second or even lesser than that! He chuckled when James told him it wasn't going to be an easy fight with them. Fair play. He too had to protect their own flag. “Okay then…..fight me.” This was at least how the game was meant for, but also teamwork. He was going to give his all. He noticed another from his team Emberlynn, giving her enough time to sneak the flag, while on the other hand he made sure the young boy Derrick from the other would not be of a problem to their attempt of taking the flag. So now his focus was back towards the man in front of him and the flag. He knew the Tyche might be lucky enough to stay away from his moves but he was going to give his all too.

James was turning his head when he heard Derrick say something. But with Ryo pulling it back he did not see emberlynn sneaking around. He just hoped that Derrick would be a good backup as he was happy that he could have the young boy play. Laughing at Ryo comment about fighting him he nodded “I plan too, but you better be ready” he smirked as he got ready for Ryo attack. James swung his sword around in a circle as he then made his first jab which then turned into a swing. He was having the time of his life as he smiled while fighting Ryo!

Ryo smirked, at the very least the could do was let his teammate attempt the steal while he would make enough distraction to the other team. “Bring it on!” He laughed as well. He knew James from some classes the past years and he surely have known him around camp, so being here fighting against him at the other team didn’t damage the relationship. He hoped there wouldn’t be any though. He was good in battling like the rest of the Athenas but oh no not killing. He quickly jerk backwards as James pulled a sword and swung towards him. He was swift in act as it was in his blood, dodging the sword while also swerving sideways to reach for the flag again.

With a grim scowl, Benji, an Ares camper with an intense dislike for Athena's progeny, watched Ryo's confident interaction with James from a distance. He despised the Athena campers' knack for turning everything into a strategic puzzle, preferring the straightforward nature of a battle. Despite his urge to jump into the fray, he resisted, understanding the importance of strategy and teamwork. As he watched James make his attack, he noticed Ryo's swift movement and yelled out, "Watch your flank, James!" Benji was a fighter, but he held himself back, watching from the sidelines and cursing the Athenas and their cunning tactics under his breath. His resentment towards Ryo was palpable, yet he had to begrudgingly acknowledge the Athena camper's skill. Despite his burning desire to take on Ryo, Benji recognized the need to protect their flag.

Ryo made no hesitation to attack but he could clearly hear the blue team’s member Benji an ares child alerting James on the flag. What great teamwork. Though he thought it wasn’t enough yet as he was already reaching for the flag. He would manage to dodge or attack if he had to. He was quick in action due to his mother’s ability, but also able to think quickly and plot plans. He had informed his other team members aside from Emberlynn beforehand to be able to back him up so he was waiting for them. In the meantime he was also aware of the ares child as well as any potential beings facing him up front. Hopefully he wasn’t going to face more than one today.

Seething with frustration, Benji found it increasingly difficult to watch Ryo from the sideline. The Athena camper's arrogant smirk annoyed him. Benji clenched his fists, the pent-up energy begging for release. He had been observing the game, providing backup where necessary, and all the while wishing for a chance to unleash his fury on Ryo. Noticing Ryo inching closer to their flag again, Benji felt his patience snap. His hands instinctively gripped his weapon, his focus zeroed in on Ryo. "Enough of this," he growled to himself. Abandoning his defensive position, he charged towards Ryo!. "For Ares!" He shouted, cursing in ancient Greek as he stormed into the fray, his single-minded intent to thwart Ryo's attempt at their flag!

Ryo was surely confident that he could grab the flag and win this round. He knew what to do and he was fast for that. It was until the ares boy came by and blocked his path, expression all rage towards him. He wondered what he had done to cause the boy to feel that way but it was probably why he was on the other team. Or maybe it was because of something he had on him? Or…. His thoughts were forming along as he was thinking how to get to the flag instead of attending to the ares boy. He was quite calm for an Athena child and would not back down easily either. Athenas were almost the same as the Areses who knew battle more than any other gods so this would be a tough fight. He smiled this time at Benji, showing his pride as an Athena child while also reaching for the flag. Now it was between both battling demigods and he hoped he was on the winning side.

As Ryo confidently sidestepped James's attacks and inched closer to their flag, Benji felt a surge of annoyance. The Athena camper was too clever and the way he seemed to mock them with his insufferable smirk was annoying him. Seeing Ryo successfully deflect James's attacks and make a grab for the flag, Benji could no longer contain his urge to intervene. "That's it," he muttered to himself, his eyes blazing with defiance. Breaking into a run, he drew his weapon, "Ryo, fight me!" His voice was a loud, resonating challenge that cut through the noise of the battlefield. It was a call to arms, an unmistakable challenge, demanding a duel. Charging towards Ryo, his intent was clear; he wasn't just there to protect his flag, he was there to face Ryo head-on. He was ready to engage in the head-to-head battle he'd been craving, a chance for an Ares vs Athena all out battle.

Ryo was brave and feeling all the talent coming to him. He knew he had to for the flag here but he wasnt any bully either so he was going to go easy on the Ares boy. He stopped the smirking as he realised it was affecting the rage from the Ares boy . “Are you guys always that mad?” He asked randomly at him but he was ready for the fight. He had no weapon today so he was doing to go all hand combat. He was good at that nonetheless  so he wasn’t worried. Hmmm should he strike the boy or just head for the flag? The ares boy was good in agitating one’s emotions but he wasn’t going to let him come at him just yet.

Ryo's condescending remark provoked a fiery response from Benji! His face contorted in anger at Ryo's casual disrespect. "Always this mad? You have no idea, Athena boy!" He spat back. It was no longer just about the flag or the game; it had become personal. The tension before the imminent clash was almost palpable as Benji readied himself. The absence of a weapon in Ryo's hands didn't reassure Benji; he knew the Athena kids had other ways to fight, using their brains as their ultimate weapon. Gripping his weapon tighter, Benji kept his gaze fixed on Ryo, prepared for any potential tricks. Despite his rage, Benji couldn't ignore the tactical part of his mind. As much as he wanted to charge headfirst into battle, he knew better. Instead, he circled Ryo, mirroring his opponent's movements, while leaving the path to the flag clearly in his sight. He would not let the flag fall into enemy hands, not on his watch. "Let's see how you plan on winning without a weapon, Ryo," Benji taunted, a dark grin spreading across his face.

Ryo couldn’t help but to wonder why kids these days still couldn’t control well on their own emotions. Or was it because he was lack of them. Surely the Athenas had methods to it and the red cabin could’ve done the same as well. Shaking his head he said, “Word of advice……it’s better to control your emotions though.” He knew how important it was to do that, especially during family arguments. He wasn’t going to get back to that anymore. He readied himself into a combat position as Benji had already begun in his attack mode, all ego and rage. “Not until you fall first “ He was prepared but his mind still wander off to how to get to the flag.
