Camp Half-Blood RP

Strike a Match, Watch it Burn

Lilythe was making her usual rounds around the campgrounds. Things had been strange lately. She still felt like her brain was in a fog most of the time. Like she needed to remember something--or someone--but couldn't seem to bring herself to. The only thing that ever came to her clearly anymore, truly, was Shadow. She found it strange, but couldn't bring herself to feel anything but comfort by it. That odd spot in her life was what was busying her mind when she stepped into the forge, expecting to find it empty. It was getting pretty late, after all, and most of the campers had made their way back to the cabins.

She did not, however, find it empty. As she stepped in she could hear the distinct clanking of tools. Lilythe silently tiptoed her way towards the noise. There, hunched over something they were working on, was another camper. A child of Ares if she wasn't mistaken. "Everly... what are you up to?" She asked in that tone she reserved for when she needed to play camp mom.

As the Cabin Leader for Cabin 11, Lilythe had met every single camper at some point or another, because they passed through her care before their parents claimed them. Hermes hosted all the "travellers" since he was the god of travellers, and so it had been her honor and privilege to touch the lives of all the demigods at camp. That didn't mean it wasn't also a headache sometimes. Especially when children of Ares arrived at camp. They always seemed to have attitudes bigger than themselves. While she had a soft spot in her heart for them, she also acknowledge that they were almost always a handful. She couldn't deny feeling just a bit of relief whenever one left her cabin for Cabin 5.

Everly waltzed into the forge as she saw the last of the other campers leave for the night. Not only did she always prefer to tinker away on her own, but she also did not want to have to answer any (what she deemed as) unnecessary questions surrounding her projects. She had heard way too many reasons of why should not or could not build any of her own landmines. Everly just did understand why everyone was so concerned for safety or whatever other reason they gave her. The Ares cabin already had landmines, she was just creating a few extra. Everly had even considered how she would be able to add her own personal twists to the devices, make them better than anything the cabin had ever seen before.

Earlier that day, she had gathered some scrap metal and broken bits from around camp and whatever she could get her hands on. Everly had drawn up designs a few days prior to her embarking on this latest endeavor and the plans were laid out in front of her and her tools. Her designs based off different blueprints that she had found printed in history books back when she was living on the Air Force base. Everly had spent so much time studying the information that it was essentially engrained in her head at this point. A few details here and there were hard to recall but she made due.

As Everly hammered away at one of the scraps of metal before her, a mother like voiced seemed to have appeared out of nowhere. A voice most definitely recognizable by most if not all campers. Despite the concern and hint of disapproval, Everly did not bother looking up. Instead, she continued to hammer at her scraps, “Well what do you think I am doing?” she answered in a low monotone manner. If Lilythe did not know what she was doing, she sure as Tartarus was not going to compromise herself.

Lilythe just shook her head. "If you're going to avoid the question, I'm going to guess that it's something you know I wouldn't approve of. I'm not an idiot." She gave a chuckle to show that there was no real ill-will here. She preferred to be gentle and supportive where she could, but Ares campers liked to push those boundaries. It often required being on the stern side to get the point across. While she wasn't really looking to punish anyone tonight, she wanted to make sure that the camper was at least safe. The last thing she needed was to write a letter to someone's parents that included the phrase 'Because they were left unsupervised'. "But I am going to recommend that you at least get a second person in here to make sure you don't get injured--or if you do that there's someone to call for medical attention."

It had honestly been considered to make it an official part of the rules that a second party was necessary in the forge. Particularly for the last reason mentioned. There had been enough injuries by the Hephaestus campers over the year that she was surprised it wasn't already a rule. She could clearly remember a couple of campers who became amputees over night. Nectar could fix a lot of things, but dismemberment was hard to come back from.

Nightly rounds had begun and she knew that Dustin would be there before long. If she played her cards right she could leave the girl with him and he could handle it. Since they were his siblings, and ultimately his responsibility, Ares campers were often best dealt with by him. Of all the campers in that cabin, he at least had the desire to try to restrain himself. It was one of the things that made him the best for that position as Cabin Leader. She wasn't sure what she would do if he ever decided to leave the camp and she had to pick a new one. Anytime now Dustin...

It didn't take long for her silent prayer to be answered. Before long she could hear footsteps.
