biography

Tobias De La Vega was a fashion designer who was very very much an activist for environmental practices. He nurtured the earth and despite his flashy and stylish designs and his name in silver lights, he was a simple guy at heart that had lots of flowers in his backyard, spending hours tending to them as they were his children, wishing for one of his own one day.

He made national headlines one day for getting into an altercation with a rival fashion company over their non-environmentally friendly practices, leading to him getting fired. But his passion and dedication to protecting the Earth drew the attention of a particular goddess of grain, and thus, one day, crossing paths in a garden of cherry blossoms, began their short relationship.

Not long after, they had a one night stand, resulting in the bundle of chaos being sired in that one night. The goddess revealed herself as Demeter to the man, who was very kind and understanding, albeit very shocked, but swore to give the baby the world, and so he did, but Demeter had advised and warned him that a day would come when young Dawn would have to separate from him and undergo training at a place called "Camp Half-Blood," lest they be attacked by monsters, and that a satyr would be reaching out to him to help give him the rest of the answers.

He didn't believe this last part at first.

Under his parenting, the young girl experimented with many interests, all so out there and random that he wasn't even sure that it was his child at first, but she was always seen climbing trees, roaming the fields near their house, picking flowers, and getting down in the dirt to grow plants and garden alongside her father, some of her most fond memories to this day.

She always had flowers on her to give others, to make them smile. But despite her gentle, caring nature, she was a force to be reckoned with as she often got herself into a lot of trouble just for a little bit of fun, a whirlwind of fun, and chaos. She dressed in bright, homemade clothes, and if you left her alone for a few hours, the house would be filled with dirt, or all the plants would be uprooted. But her father coddled her constantly, leaving her to keep causing mischief now and then.

To help her get active and to release some of that ADHD demigod energy, her father offered for her to take fencing when she turned 6, and so she did. She had natural talent in the sport, and although her coach was a bit strange, always walking with a limp and speaking to her father in private, he taught well for her early years. Unbeknownst to her, her coach was a satyr who was communicating with her father and warning him about her having to go to Camp Half-Blood before she turned 13, lest she not be claimed in time by her godly parent.

Her carefree, unique lifestyle was cut short when, while in their calm little house out in the countryside, a particularly angry Hellhound attacked 9 year old Dawn, who was in the garden eating the flowers and playing in them. It left a sizeable scar on her back, but she managed to run away, screaming for her father. Tobias ended up grabbing his daughter, a flower pot, and his car keys and driving away, trying to lose the creature that just struck.

To protect his daughter the best he could, he married a mortal woman, an old coworker, and moved to the city of New York, where young Dawn could have a little bit more safety. It backfired terribly, as her stepmother was extremely conservative and strict, some could even say extreme, that Dawn was forced to conform, wipe her colorful paint away from her face, put all over her eccentric hobbies into a box and conform, being sent to a private school.

She could no longer fence, under her stepmother's watchful gaze, but her coach had moved to the city to keep a better eye on her, awaiting for the fateful day she would be separated from her family to go to camp.

Kids found her odd considering her affinity for playing in the dirt, getting down and dirty digging for bugs in the mud, anywhere she went, she was always causing trouble. They called her a 'freak' and a 'weirdo', as children do to bully each other. Her mother, day by day, often resorted to physical punishment to get her daughter to behave, when her father wasn't around to see. Even if he was around, her stepmother went out of her way to distance the both of them When her half-sibling twins were born, she was almost forgotten entirely by the family, the stepmother asserting control over their relationship still.

There had been no monster attacks since she was 9, yet as her 13th birthday neared, her father, feeling terrible for the young girl's once curious and chaotic spark being put out by his wife, finally decided it was time to tell her about Camp Half-Blood, due to her growing age. He pulled her aside after months of convincing his wife to leave him alone with his daughter for a couple hours.

"Before your mother left, my dandelion," he had said, rubbing her hair, "She told me about a place where people like you could be safe."

"People like me?" she had questioned, scared. "What do you mean?"

"Even I don't know, sweetpea. But...I think its best if you go there. You're getting older now, and I think it's time I told you."

And so he explained how her mother didn't exactly die giving birth to her, but instead, was the plant goddess Demeter, and about a special camp where she could be safe and thrive without the constant abuse from her stepmother.

The young girl did not understand what he meant, (goddess? Weren't those just silly little Greek stories? Myths? She didn't understand, that was what she was taught at least.) but was sick of putting up with her stepmother, sick of being ostracized for every little thing she did, so she packed her bags, and the minute she bid her heartbroken father goodbye, she saw a familiar face once more...now with...hooves?

"GAH!" she threw a rock at the furry thing that approached her. "What are you, and why do you look like my old fencing coach?"

The satyr sighed, bracing the throws. "It's because I am him. Relax, child. Your father and I have been working together to arrange for you to get to camp for years. The time has come to finally take you."

The young girl struggled and resisted on her way to camp, distrustful of the satyr guide. She didn't think this was real, it must've been a dream, but eventually, it sunk in for her throughout the journey as she approached the gates of the camp she had been informed about not too long ago.

"Camp Half-Blood!" she had said excitedly, shaking the poor satyr by the shoulders and running ahead. "It's real then, huh? Well then...I guess we'll keep going."

And so she was claimed, a week before she turned 13, as a daughter of Demeter- albeit, a rather chaotic one at that. She practiced with every single weapon she could get her hands on, especially archery, as it was her favorite, but leave her alone with any sort of trouble causing device, and she'll be sure to make some chaos with it...

Personality

Despite her chaos, she is a gentle soul at heart who wants nothing more to make others smile with her eccentricities. She matured enough to move on from her mismatched, homemade clothes, but she's often seen wearing fun colors and things that reflect her fun personality. She's mischievous and is always down to stir the pot and cause a little bit of chaos and mischief with her friends, and throughout the camp. Dawn favors the bold, but has a soft spot for those in distress with their identities, or those too shy to go out there and express themselves, gently guiding them along.

She is very impulsive and unpredictable, despite her happy, sunshine like nature, she doesn't hesitate to resort to angry words when things go wrong, unafraid to protect and stand up for her friends. Dawn's non confrontational regardless, often resorting to more peaceful methods to cool down serious situations.

She's sarcastic and witty, taking challenges as a game and takes joy in being competitive, challenging other campers in good spirits! Due to her chaotic nature, always bouncing around, she has a hard time forming meaningful relationships, despite having a normal approach to romance. You have to grab her by the neck to calm her down, and even then, it's hard to calm her and have her settle down a bit to take things seriously, or to listen.

She loves her half-siblings and is always willing to make treats for them, due to her natural cooking and baking abilities! Dawn can be found in the trees, climbing and exploring, always searching for something fun to do and new adventures and experiences.
