RPC 11) Fend off a Hellhound.

MK was on a relentless mission to scout for the opposing team's flag. With her competitive spirit burning inside her, she ventured deep into the southern part of the forest alongside her trusted ally, Axel. As she reached the edge, the rustling of leaves caught MK's attention, and her senses sharpened. Suddenly, piercing the silence, a menacing growl echoed through the trees. Without hesitation, MK swiftly drew her gleaming sword, her eyes blazing with determination, ready to face whatever challenge awaited her. Emerging from the dense foliage was a formidable hellhound, its fiery eyes fixated on her. Undeterred, MK squared her shoulders, channeling her indomitable will to triumph. She was about to engage in a battle that would test her strength, agility, and unyielding competitive spirit. "DO you see this Axel?" she called out hoping he was close by so they could fight this one together.

Axel had missed last year's capture-the-flag by a matter of weeks, which was unfortunate considering such an event was right up his alley. This time he was not about to let the opportunity pass him by. He walked proudly beside MK - both his literal sister and sister-in-arms - ready to take on whatever came their way. It had been a little while since he'd gotten to spend time with his sister. The boy spent most of his free time away from the cabins, honing his skills on the training fields or at the archery range. Still, he felt more than comfortable at her side. He never had to worry about being too awkward or too competitive for MK. The two were of similar mind when it came to combat and tactics. As they walked, he found himself wondering if his sister would enjoy chess. It would be fun to play with somebody who wasn't his awful stepfather...

He was about to broach the topic when a low growl set him on edge. He drew his blade, instinctively shifting his focus to the source of the sound. A large black dog with fiery red eyes was approaching from the foliage. His sister was already preparing, her shoulders squared to take on the beast. "Do you see this Axel?"

He gulped. "Hard to miss," he joked, though it sounded more like a blunt statement. He'd never faced anything quite so large and vicious-looking. But he certainly wasn't going to pass up such an opportunity. It was time to prove himself. He readied his blade, prepared for the beast's first lunge.

MK's heart pounded in her chest as the menacing hellhound locked its fiery gaze on her. Gripping her sword tightly, she maintained a steady stance, her muscles coiled, ready to unleash her training. She could feel Axel's presence beside her. The rush of adrenaline coursed through her veins, heightening her senses and sharpening her focus. "Get ready Axel, these things don't play" her voice was calm and collective. With a deep breath, MK made her move. She darted forward, sword held high, meeting the hellhound head-on. Her blade clashed against the creature's vicious claws as they swiped at her. MK skillfully parried and countered, her training and instinct guiding her every motion. Each clash of metal reverberated through the forest as she engaged in a deadly dance with the formidable opponent. One thing about monsters was that they never played fair so it made a few moves here and there that threw her off. "WOAHHH" she said as she began to stumble back.

Axel nodded at his sister's instruction. Normally he wasn't the best at taking orders, but this was something different. Real combat. The situation was both terrifying and exhilarating. MK was far more experienced with battle than he was. In all of his daily practices, he had never encountered something so vicious as the hellhound they were now faced with. Still, in the heat of the moment, and with his sibling beside him, there was no fear in his eyes. If anything there was something eager and childlike about his expression. He looked like an elementary schooler who's only good subject was PE and it was finally the school's field day. Aside from chess, melee combat was perhaps his greatest skill and passion. And today he finally got to show that off.

The boy moved in lock-step with his sister, coming in beside her to strike a blow at the mighty beast. It was surprisingly quick for something so large. It swiped its claws in large motions, yet still they seemed to come in at lightning speed. MK parried and countered with ease, while Axel backed her up as best he could. Even with all his extra training, he knew she was the one with actual field experience, so he deferred to her lead.

"WHOAAA"

A single swipe made it through MKs defenses, breaking the hellhounds previous patterns of movements. Playing dirty I see. Axel sneered at the beast, taking a step forward to block the next lunge at his sister. He spun his blade round and bopped the thing in the nose. It took a step backwards, letting out a dazed growl. The move would only buy them a second, but he was confident it would be enough for his skilled partner to regain her balance. He seamlessly slid into position for a pincer attack, grinning wildly from the excitement of the fight.

MK's heart raced as she stumbled back from the unexpected blow, but she quickly regained her footing, her competitive spirit fueling her determination. She locked eyes with Axel  With renewed focus, MK tightened her grip on her sword and swiftly recovered, her training kicking in. She analyzed the hellhound's movements, looking for any weaknesses to exploit. As Axel stepped forward to block the next lunge, MK seized the opportunity. She swiftly closed the distance, her sword slashing through the air with precision. The hellhound recoiled from Axel's strike, momentarily disoriented. Capitalizing on the opening, MK lunged forward, her blade finding its mark. She delivered a powerful thrust, piercing through the creature's tough hide, causing it to yelp in pain. "Take that you stupid monster" her voice was a fierce one. "That was so good axel, you are getting so good." her voice will filled with pride.

Axel gave the monster no time to recover. The moment he heard it yelp, he knew it was a perfect opportunity. Invigorated by MK's declaration, He drove his blade deep into the hound's side. "Yeah!" he echoed his sister. "Take that!" The beast reeled and growled, it's massive jaws lashing helplessly at the two Nike children. This thing was no match for MacKayla Johnson: Seasoned Warrior and her quickly-developing little brother. It never stood a chance.

The hellhoud let out a strained howl, signifying that it was on the brink of death. "Thanks!" Axel's grin grew wider. HIs sister, whom he had grown to look up to quite a bit this past year, was proud of him. Honestly, it felt strange to recieve a compliment from family when it came to his achievements. Every time he did something right, he half expected to be berated for "trying to look better" than his foster brother, his stepdad, his peers... whoever. So to be so readily recognized for his progress felt odd. Odd, but great. "I've been practicing!" He explained eagerly.

The creature lashed out again, but it was heavily wounded and clearly out of moves. The young boy easily sidestepped it's claws. His eyes locked with MK's. "I almost feel bad for it," he chuckled. "Almost. Let's finish this!"

MK flashed him a bright smile, a mixture of admiration and camaraderie shining in her eyes. "You've definitely been putting in the work, Axel," she praised, her voice brimming with genuine pride. Their connection as siblings and fellow warriors felt like it only strengthened in that moment, and MK felt a surge of joy knowing that they were becoming an unstoppable force. That was one of the things she loved about her cabin...they were all competitive and determined. Pushed to the break of their best physically and mentally!

As the hellhound's feeble attempts to retaliate fell short, Axel easily evaded its desperate strikes. The wounded creature was on its last legs, its demise imminent. MK's competitive spirit burned hotter than ever, urging her to push forward and secure their victory. With a nod of agreement, she gripped her sword tightly, her gaze locked onto the struggling beast. "No mercy," she declared, her voice unwavering.  Moving forward she delivered the final blows hoping Axel would do the same with her, ending the creature's suffering. A triumphant rush washed over them as the forest fell silent once more. MK's heart pounded in her chest, the exhilaration of the battle coursing through her veins. She turned to Axel, a mixture of excitement and satisfaction painting her features. "Well done, Axel," she commended, a hint of playful competitiveness lacing her words. "You're becoming a true warrior....thanks for the assist!"

Axel's face beamed. The two combatants moved in perfect harmony, driving their blades into the whimpering monster. It's misery did not last long. One final push from the Nike siblings, and the massive hound erupted into smoke. Monsters were odd that way. Rather than dying the normal way, slain monsters would vanish in flames or dust only to resurface sometime later. It could be weeks, years, even centuries... but no monster was truly beaten for good. Though while being denied a permanent victory didn't always sit well with Axel, he had to admit he'd rather not deal with cleaning up a hellhound corpse.

"T-thanks!" the boy stammered, clearly unused to being complimented. It was funny really. He'd never been in this much danger in the outer world. (Actually he had been in more danger, but he'd been unaware of it so it didn't count.) Yet here at camp he felt more secure than he ever had. Here he had a purpose, a talent... and a family. "You too," he told his sister. He doubted she needed any encouragement from him, but it seemed like the right thing to say. "Well done."

As the two turned to continue their quest for a flag, he felt his foot brush against a hefty stone. No... not a stone. A fang. A trophy. One wouldn't have thought it possible for the boy's expression to be any brighter. That person would be wrong. Axel scooped up the prize and stuffed it in the jacket pocket beneath his armor. He hoped MK wouldn't mind him keeping this one. Nah, he thought. Something told him she wouldn't.  It was his very first monster trophy! And besides, he had no plans to hog all the glory for himself. Now that he had proof of beating a real monster, it was certain he'd be bragging to anyone who asked. Bragging all about this intense battle, and about his amazing older sister.
