Hailing from Longueuil, Quebec, Canada, Amelia's life was one of relative comfort. Her parents' steady incomes provided stability, further supported by the involvement of her stepdad's parents in her upbringing. It was her step-grandfather who played a pivotal role, helping her secure diagnoses for autism and ADHD at the ages of 3 and 5, respectively. As her academic journey began, he recognized the need for further assessment, leading to diagnoses of dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia, and a non-verbal learning disorder. In addition, her array of anxiety disorders (general, social, and specific phobias) was also identified.

Amelia's diagnoses, while illuminating, failed to provide the support she truly needed. They inadvertently led to interference in her life. Her struggle to grasp social cues left her bewildered, often referring to it as "how to people." The inability to read nonverbal signals resulted in awkward and uncomfortable interactions. Paradoxically, her heightened sensitivity made her feel as if she absorbed others' emotions as her own, fostering a deep connection with her step-grandfather, who became her solace. Amid her busy parents and step-grandmother, she hesitated to confide, fearing to burden them further.

New challenges arose when a fellow student joined her class in second grade. Amelia's anxiety escalated to an overwhelming extent, hindering her focus throughout the day. Recess beneath a familiar tree offered her temporary respite. Her step-grandfather, the only refuge she truly felt, discerned her distress, effortlessly understanding her hypersensitivity to the emotions of others. In contrast, her maternal grandparents, subscribing to outdated beliefs, remained distant due to their disbelief in mental disorders.

Amelia's step-grandfather's unwavering support extended beyond emotional understanding. He introduced her to ballet and piano, nurturing her passions. An escape to the basement, where a soundproofed room housed an old grand piano, became her sanctuary when overwhelmed. School proved challenging, draining her energy with fidgeting, panic attacks, and struggles with assignments. Positioned at the front of the class, her desk overflowed with papers and textbooks, her pleas for assistance often falling on deaf ears.

Academically, Amelia faced hurdles, excelling only in music and art. Gym class, rife with sensory triggers, left her overwhelmed. The pungent smells and cacophony of noise tested her senses. English class brought forth daunting essays and comprehension tasks, compounded by nerve-wracking oral presentations. Math class felt foreign, while even her proficiency in French couldn't ease her discomfort. Recesses were solitary moments, spent under a tree with her dolls as companions.

Amid these challenges, the church emerged as a haven. An old cathedral provided solace, its pipe organ resonating welcoming melodies. Sabbath School offered her cherished moments, with music playing an integral role in her connection to the community. At home, the piano, the basement, and her room became realms of comfort, surrounded by an abundance of dolls, clothes, and stuffed animals.

Amelia's half-siblings stood as her closest allies, forming the core of her friendships. At the age of 10, a bearded man named Steve entered her life, assuming a protective role and earning her trust. His constant presence brought assurance, his caring demeanor a source of comfort. Yet, an unexpected revelation would test the boundaries of their connection.

One day, Steve, the bearded man, shared a startling truth with Amelia. He revealed that he was a satyr, a mythical creature from ancient Greek mythology. Confusion enveloped her as she grappled with this astonishing disclosure. Unsure how to process this new information, she distanced herself from Steve for a few days, the once-solid foundation of their relationship now shaken.

However, Amelia's curiosity and quest for understanding led her to delve into books on mythology. As she absorbed the tales of gods, heroes, and fantastical beings, a gradual acceptance blossomed within her. The notion of Steve being a satyr began to align with her growing comprehension of the extraordinary.

In time, Amelia reconnected with Steve, a newfound awareness underscoring their interactions. Their bond, once briefly strained, emerged stronger, fortified by her evolving perspective. Steve's presence became a bridge to a world beyond the ordinary, enriching Amelia's life with wonder and adventure.

As their connection deepened, Steve guided Amelia towards a pivotal juncture. A poignant farewell to her mother and step-grandfather marked the beginning of a transformative journey. Steve, her steadfast companion, drove her to Camp Half-Blood, a sanctuary where her unique heritage and abilities could flourish. With bittersweet farewells behind her, Amelia embarked on a path of discovery, emboldened by her connection to the mythic realm and the unbreakable bond she shared with Steve.

Personality

Amelia is a loyal, caring friend but is  disconnected in social situations.  Despite her loyalty to her loved ones, she sometimes pulls away for days, ignoring all attempts at communication. Acquaintances of her would likely describe her as quiet, intelligent, serious, gentle, and a bit reclusive. Others generally perceive her as a pleasant person to be around, but notice that she can be moody, aloof, and even somewhat crabby on occasion.

Intensely private. Despite their loving and sensitive natures, she has a tendency to close herself off from the world and doesn’t give people the chance to know her or see the wonderful qualities she possesses. Even in her relations with family and trusted friends, she can be enigmatic. When she is feeling frustrated or introspective, she will retreat from social contact without so much as a word of explanation, which can throw others for a loop.

Conflict averse. She dislikes conflict intensely and will usually intervene to stop it, but this is one area where her perspective can get distorted. She fails to recognize that conflict can actually serve a useful purpose, allowing a good process of give-and-take to be established and giving all parties the opportunity to resolve their problem forever. She would be wise to acknowledge the value of open and honest dialogue, instead of automatically assuming that all squabbling is harmful.

Sensitive. Once she has made up her mind, she tends to be very confident in her conclusions and does not have much tolerance for those who continue to dissent. When someone challenges their conclusions, she reacts very strongly and is especially vulnerable to criticism.

Fatal Flaw: Amy's indecisiveness is a constant struggle, affecting her ability to navigate both major and minor choices, exacerbated by her underlying anxiety. When confronted with a decision, such as determining the timing of her oral presentation for English class, she becomes immobilized, her speech falters, and she eventually relies on her teacher to make the choice on her behalf. In her perception, the weight of selecting the right option becomes paralyzing, fueled by the fear of inadvertently causing harm to others. This fear of future regret and the notion of disappointing the world engulfs her mind. Consequently, she finds solace in procrastination, a coping mechanism that shields her from the stress of decision-making, allowing her to momentarily embrace comfort and security. Inescapably caught in a cycle, she grapples with a sense of impending doom regardless of her chosen course of action – a sentiment that prevails whether she takes a step forward or remains immobilized.
