Something's Off

Lilythe Rayne

~~~ Mid-December 2021 ~~~
Lilythe awoke with a headache. She hadn't remembered drinking anything, so it couldn't be that. Over the past week or so, her mind had been incredibly foggy. She felt a bit light-headed more often then not, and it was hard to focus on anything. Anything that wasn't Shadow, anyway. Thoughts of him seemed to come to her mind clear as day, while even though it hadn't been long since their last encounter, she was struggling to remember Azrael's face.
Popping a couple aspirin, Lilythe got dressed. She had decided that she needed to see Azrael. If for no other reason, than because she missed him. At least, that had to be what forgetting what his face looked like meant, right? She wasn't entirely sure what was going on, but she figured it wouldn't hurt to try and spend some time with him to get her head back on straight. Once dressed, she applied a thin layer of natural looking makeup and hopped out of her cabin, making her way to cabin 16.
As she arrived, she chewed nervously on her lip. What if Azzy had been trying to avoid her? She wasn't sure where that thought had really come from, but she couldn't deny it evoked a lot of anxiety in her. Azrael had left camp for several years because he couldn't stand to watch her date someone else. It would make sense if he was avoiding her again now that Shadow was back at camp, right? She would just have to convince him not to leave this time. That everything could be okay. And she was still just figuring things out herself. Please...I can't lose him again. She prayed internally to whatever god might listen.
Azrael had been switching thigs up in and around the camp, he had been slowly coming to terms with the camp gossip surrounding Lilythe and Shadow spending more time together... well not so much coming to terms with it as he had been trying to convince himself he could come to terms with the new situation. He had tried to catch her attention a few times but she either seemed to look past him or not hear him, busy with whatever activity she was up to as if he wasn't there. They had agreed to give her the time to make up her own mind, but she had seemed more distant recently.
He had recently pushed himself into any projects he could come up with, recent monster sighting reports, making an axe throwing rig out the back of cabin sixteen and the latest was swapping out shifts up at the big house. He knew James always preferred the late shift when he could bust out his guitar and enjoy the creativity the dark hours afforded him and Azrael preferred times when things were busier, easier to take his mind off of her.
He was just settling into his time up at the big house for the morning, so far he had to contend with a few bumps and bruises but the campers should mostly be settling into activities and he would have to sort out the basics for his close combat training with the Ares cabin this afternoon. He started to idly jot down some plans for how best to get them to work together - it was hard enough for him to keep up with their supernatural prowess with a weapon but he was devoting lessons, as best he could, to teamwork and cooperation. A task he had found tougher than he had expected with their stubborn streak and need to be the first into any fight.
He looked up at the sound of an arrival through the main doors of the big house, waiting to see if this was another new camper in need of the demigod 101 speech. "Through here at the main desk.. nothing to be afraid of." He said, conjuring a more jovial tone than he felt.. first impressions into the camp were important and he could remember his own all those years ago.
When she arrived at his cabin, his siblings were quick to tell her that she could find him up at The Big House. Lilythe quickly turned around and headed up that way. She hoped he was truly there and that they hadn't sent her on a wild goose chase.
A smirk crossed Lilythe's face as she realized that Azrael was, indeed, here. However, he thought she was a new camper. She could feel her mind racing as she tried to come up, in the split-second she had, with a plan to mess with him. Immediately she thought to pitch her voice higher, but then the idea for an accent came and that led to an even better idea. She had learned bits and pieces of languages over the years, but spoke nothing fluently. Still, she could manage the phrase she needed in just about any language. I don't speak English. It was perfect. He'd have to come to her, right? If he couldn't give English instructions. Putting on a thick French accent, she pitched her voice higher as well to throw him off, and repeated the phrase she had heard when in Paris. "Je ne parle pas anglais."
With that done, she took a seat on one of the chairs just off the main entrance, but out of the line of sight from the windows on the patio and waited for Azrael to come out to greet her. This will be fun.
