The Claiming Summer 2021

Emberlynn sat on a stump close to the fire, the sparks glinting and dancing in her strangely purple eyes. She'd followed the crowd over to this area, and watched intently as the crowd oooed and ahhed at the various claiming. Though a cloud did still hang in her mind, it was hard not to get wrapped up in all of the excitement. As each stranger got a lightshow above their head, the girl began to wonder about her own lineage. Which god gave birth to her, and whoever it was, why had the child of a god been raised an orphan? Mt. Olympus must have been a busy place, but surely a quick "Hi, I'm your mom/dad" might have given her a bit easier of a childhood. The claimees seemed excited, eager to devote themselves to the cabin of whichever parent called to them. But - was that right? From what the girl had been told, the gods were forced to claim their children by thirteen, so there was no guarantee that she was even wanted by her "birth family".  Speaking of which, Emberlynn's thirteenth birthday was fast approaching.

The hubbub began to wane as the night came to a close. The event was almost over it seemed.  She stood and stretched her arms upward, relieving the stiffness in her limbs. The child found herself looking at the space above her head. Something had to appear there. If not tonight, then very soon. And when it did - would she like what she saw? Though her logical mind was telling her to be wary, there was another feeling. A stronger feeling. Looking around at her fellow campers cheering and welcoming the new members of their cabins, she identified just what that feeling was. Longing.

As the evening began to wind down, Lilythe looked around for any final signs from the gods. She didn't have to wait long. From off to one side, Lilythe saw a brilliant rainbow shine itself above a young girl's head. Despite the fact that there was no sunlight, the rainbow shone brightly as if it were made of light itself. The young girl had been looking around and Lilythe smiled. "Above your head." She pointed above her. "That's a clear sign from Iris. Cabin 14."
