The Claiming Summer 2021

As the sun sets, the campers begin to make their way down to the bonfire. At the beginning of every summer now, it's almost like a ritual. All the new campers get claimed by their parent if the child is 13. Even some of the younger children get claimed from time to time. Nobody wants to miss a chance to welcome a new member to their cabin, or to find out where those particularly interesting individuals go. And so it was in the summer of 2021, like many summers before it. The claiming.

So it was near dusk, Katie went out of the Hermes cabin earlier to the bonfire to check out how the claiming event was prepared. She figured there would be food delights and beverages since it was a campfire and people would be gathering around. The place was huge, enough for the whole camp to gather. She glanced around looking for the other new campers who were like her, would get claimed tonight. She simply sat near the bonfire where a few campers were busy setting it up.

Before long the campfire was roaring and most of the members of Camp Half-Blood were sitting there around it. As had become tradition, Lilythe guided the new campers, including @ Katie Rose  to the front of the group. She smiled and reassured them that everything would be okay, explaining to the younger ones--those not quite 13 yet--that their parents may not claim them tonight and may wait until they were older, and ensuring those who had reached their thirteenth year, or close to it, that their parent would claim them tonight. They didn't have to wait long. As soon as the sun set the gods began their work.

Above Katie's head, an owl appeared. "Well that settles it, dear. You're bound for Cabin Six. Athena." Lilythe smiled and gestured towards the benches where the rest of the cabin six children were sitting.

Kenna had talked to Lilythe earlier that day all about being a demi-god and how she might get claimed. The rest of the day she spent it fiddling with one of hre contraptions she kept in her pocket. Kenna walked by all the different cabins as campers came and went. She tried to dream of what it was going to be like when it happened. Would she feel happy that she had more family to bond with? The day went by fast as she watched two older campers have a sword battle and she went to visit the horses. This had been a relatively good day for her in a long time.  As she sat there waiting with some of the other campers. She saw one of the campers who she didn't know yet get claimed. "WOAHHHH" she said as the owl appeared above her head. Lilyth called it out and had her sit down by the other cabin 6 members. Trembling a bit she wondered if this was the night or was it going to be another one??

As the bonfire started not long after Katie arrived, she stood in front of the crowd as Lilythe guided the new campers. She smiled a little since she was a little bit nervous on the claiming, but also excited since she was going to be claimed by her godly grandparents soon. Would they appear as well? She hoped she could meet them one day. She stood still until she sensed something forming above her head. An owl symbol appeared soon after as she heard herself being a child of Athena. Somehow she felt like it from the start, but she would really miss Hermes cabin and the cabin mates there. She smiled thanking Lilythe and went to sit with the group from the Athena cabin. Guess it would be time to get to know her fellow siblings now, at the same time she watched the others getting claimed as well.

Another bonfire was tonight. More new incoming campers were arriving to the camp and even though it was pretty excited to see the others get claimed by their godly parents, it always brought him to think about what happen when he first arrived at the camp. He was thirteen like most of them here. He couldn't help but smirk a little think back at the symbols that appeared over his head. He glanced around to his siblings and he nodded at them. He was there to see if there would be any more siblings for him. Lilythe was there already and she had motioned for the girl to cabin six. They seemed to erupt into cheers and once again he smirked. His eyes searched the ground for a certain camp member but he hadn't seen her at the moment.

It had been only a day since Lena had signed herself away to him. As soon as she made her way to the bonfire, she could feel his presence though. Mateo. Every bit of her wanted to go to his side, feel more of what he elicited from her. But that wouldn't have been appropriate. Her cabin needed her for now. So she walked right past him, giving a small wink, as she made her way over to sit with the others from Aphrodite's cabin.

The bonfire was always interesting. Finding out where the new kids belonged was definitely one of the biggest forms of entertainment at camp. The mystery that led up to it, and the final reveal. All of it kept campers talking for days. Lena watched the new campers that Lilythe had led before them, wondering whether any of them would be her new brother or sister.

Most of the campers that Lilythe had led in had dispersed into the seats near the front. It wasn't hard to figure out who would be next though. The gods often gave her a moment with a subtle hint before the full reveal. Giving each child their moment in the spotlight. The next child Lilythe noticed have something occur was @ Kenna Rhys . Lilythe gave her a reassuring smile as she noticed a small flicker start above her head. "Well Kenna, it looks like you'll get your claiming today too." She gestured above the girl's head as a fiery hammer appeared above her head. "Looks like you'll be in Cabin 9." Lilythe gestured over to the section of the campfire where the other children of Hephaestus sat. "Welcome child of Hephaestus."

After Elena stayed for nearly a year, she understood what would happen next. This was an important event for her life, the event she had waited since the time she understood she was a half-blood. The camper here was quite friendly but she wanted a place to belong. She would have half-sister and half-brother like everyone else. She took a place in front of the bonfire, watching two other childs to be claimed. She had known Kenna since the first days and she was very happy for her to be claimed while the other girl was strange. Maybe she joined the camp after her. Elena shrugged and waited for her turn to be claimed.

It seemed like the claimings were coming faster and faster. It wasn't long before another change began to occur. It was faint at first, but a soft glow, like the dim amber of a nightlight, began to float above @ Elena Miller . Then the soft sound of a lullaby began to light upon the air, lulling everyone into a bit of a drowsy spell. Suddenly a blanket, very light purple in color, draped itself softly around Elena. Lilythe yawned as she waved the girl over towards the other children of Hypnos. "Cabin 15." Forcing herself to stretch and wake up. "Child of Hypnos, go join your siblings." Lilythe smiled blearily, still trying to recover as the urge to sleep slowly faded.

Gm granted from James

After the exciting day, she had ended up finding James once again and this time she couldn't help but want to be stuck by him. She had even started holding on to his shirt when they would walk places and the place that they were heading to at the moment was the bonfire. Or so that was what he said it was. This was where most of the kids were going to find out who their parents were. She smiled happily thinking about what her mother was going to be like. Her daddy had told her she was pretty but that was all that he would talk about. As she got there, she couldn't help but blink when James had sat her next to a bunch of campers that were in the cabin that she visited earlier. She waved happily at Lilythe who seemed to be doing something with the campers and their claiming. She turned to look around at everyone. Her eyes widened as she watched the fist couple girls get claimed, however when the last girl got claimed she couldn't help but yawn and rub her eyes a little. The girl seemed to even get a blanket with it. Octavia yawned again, when she felt a couple hands on her back, rubbing her awake. Hearing the girl tell her that she didn't want to miss none of the action. The young girl placed her hand on her cheeks and gave a squeeze before smiling at the helpful cabin girl. She was curious though. Was she going to be claimed or was she to young to be claimed this time.

This whole thing was new to her. She had never in her life thought that she was going to be at a camp next to everyone like this waiting to be claimed by their godly parent. Strangely enough she had no idea who her parent was going to be. Which made everything that much more nerve wracking for her. Since she was given up for adoption when she was barely a couple hours old. She sighed hard as she watched the others being claimed. One girl even got a blanket there. Now she wondered who was going to be the next person that was going to be claimed because lets be honest, she was totally ready for bed at this point.

The drowsiness didn't go away for long, however. Once again a soft glow, like the dim amber of a nightlight, began to float above a camper. This time @ Savanna Lewis  had the honor. The now familiar soft sound of a lullaby began to light upon the air again, once more lulling everyone into a bit of a drowsy spell. Suddenly another blanket, very light purple in color, draped itself softly around Savanna. Hypnos if you could wait a minute or two between claimings, I'd rather not fall asleep by the bonfire.

James had spent most the day with a few campers. As tonight was the claiming and he would be watching with the rest of the camp as the God's held their promise they made with Percy some time ago. He had been claimed because of that which was nice. As he sat Octavia down with the other campers who were being claimed he then quietly moved out of the way to his own cabin. There was a girl who was claimed by Athena, another Hephaestus, then next two were Hypnos which made him drowsy. Shaking his head he was happy to see Savanna being claimed by Hypnos as well. Looking over to Octavia he smiled at her before turning back to watch Liliythe run this show.

Lilythe searched the crowd for the next claiming. It was a few minutes before the next one came around, almost as if the god who chose to was waiting for someone. As James took his seat, however, Lilythe caught a faint green light. She looked over towards the source. Sure enough, just above the head of @ Octavia Davis  a shimmering green, four leave clover appeared. At her feat a few drachmae appeared, and a cornucopia appeared in her lap, filled with more drachmae. Lilythe knew well enough that the drachmae were likely to disappear shortly, but it was an impressive sum while it lasted. "I have good news for you little one. Remember how you said you like James a lot? He's your brother. Your Mom is Tyche. Welcome to Cabin 19." Lilythe beamed, happy for the shy little girl.

Derrick had been talking to Dustin most the day but then went off on his own. To think about all the things he was told about who he was and what his life would be like now. He was still just so angry that everything had happened the way it did. As he walked around the camp, he kicked the rock on the grounds as he passed by campers that seemed so happy. But he was a mix of emotions as he wanted to know why???? Why did his parent have to bring this upon him? What id he didn't want this life? Well the day was coming to an end so walked towards the bonfire and sat on a log with others that were much older than him. They told him he was young so he might have some time before claimed. He watched the others as the claiming happened for them. He watched how happy they were as they joined their cabins.

Before long, yet another goddess claimed her child. Above the head of a small boy that Lilythe had not yet met, another symbol--a set of scales--shrouded in shadows formed. The young boy (@ Derrick Raines ) appeared to have shadows cling to him, and a broken wheel lay by his feet. Lilythe knew that symbol all too well, it was the house of one of her former greatest friends, Azrael. She hadn't heard from him in ages, but she knew his mother's symbols when she saw them. "Child of Nemesis, welcome to Cabin 16." Lilythe gestured over to a small cloister of children. "A very dear friend of mine belonged to that cabin once. I hope it treats you well." She smiled softly at the young boy. He could be no older than 10. It hurt her heart knowing the reputation that children of Nemesis sometimes had, and hoped it wouldn't follow him.

Octavia couldn't help but look around as she waited for the next person to be claimed. She glanced over to where James had gone and made a mental note that she was going to go over to him when it was time. Which meant after the claiming. However, it seemed that after James sat down something began to glow. It was a green color and she looked all around but couldn't find it until someone appeared at her feet and then on her lap. "Oh?" she said curiously as she lifted the cornucopia up to examine it a little. She giggled a little as the coins began to fall from it. It was then that she heard Lilythe's voice again when she glanced up at her. She talked about James and she glanced over at him with a bright smile. He was her brother. How exciting. "Can I go over and sit there?" She question just in time to see the cabin that James was in waving her over there. They seemed to be excited about having her and she finally found out where she belonged. "Okay." She giggled as she picked up the coins and placed them into the cornucopia and slowly walked her way over to where James had stood up and held his arms open to her. When she got there he picked her up. "Hi, big brother." She said with a happy smile on her face. "Do I get to keep them all?" She questioned with a bright smile on her face. She glanced back over to the bonfire where a boy got claimed and he looked no older that she was. She blinked and turned to James once again. "We little ones are getting claimed."

It was not long after he got there when the symbol appeared above Octavia, a smile grew even more on his face as he was happy his feeling was right. As he watched Lilythe tell her the good news. The two of them would be seeing more of each other since they were siblings. His heart melted as he stepped forward to hug her. Waving her over to him and their other siblings he was so excited. Grabbing her, he picked her up laughing "Hello little sister......welcome to the family" he said with a ton of happiness. Closing his eyes he thanked the God's for listening to his prayer earlier to them all. "Well you can but they will disappear but no worries we can work on your penny collection...they are worth much more" he said laughing in his gentle soft way. Nodding his head he moved her over to the side with their cabin. The others around him were welcoming the new one to the family.

Dahlia had been happy to be back at camp this summer as she felt so much safer here than with her da back in the midwest. If it wasn't the monsters hunting her it was the Yakuza trying to find them. It was a life of constant movement which was hard because she never got to make friends or really settle down in a school she felt accepted in. Being from Japan was hard enough as the culture in America way very different than what she grew up with. So as she walked to the bonfire with her half siblings she watched as so many of the younger campers were claimed. Even the young ones had luck on their side! Dahlia had been claimed when she was just 13 years old but that was one year ago.

Her life seemed to change forever for the better as now she had friends and training to help her survive in a world full of monsters!

Kenna was not thinking she would be claimed so quickly....I mean she looked up to see the flame and hammer above her head. Looking back at Lilythe to see what this meant as this was just so new to her. "Really??? Thank you" she looked over to the group that was cheering for her to join them. They all looked like they had been working in a hot area cause some soot was still on them. Finding herself smiling she got up and rushed over to Cabin 9 area, taking her place with all the other campers in that cabin. This meant they were her family and she would not be so alone then.....how nice. Looking around it felt good to have her surrounded by family in this new journey she was going to be on.

Derrick was not expecting much of today as it had been pretty miserable, first losing his dad and then his best friend! There was this overwhelming feeling of being sad but also vengeful. That was when he realized he was being talked to by one of the older campers. Looking up at her, there was still so much anger in his eyes as he wanted to fix all of this. He had to do something! She called out to everyone he was in Cabin 16 Nemesis. Wondering how she knew he looked down to see a broken wheel at his feet. But this camper was kind and gentle. She told him her friend was there so he gave a slight smile as he got up to join the group she gestured towards.

McKayla had talked to Zoren after she arrived at camp which meant they had to catch up a ton since they lived so far apart. Time pasted so fast so it was time to eat before she knew it. McKayla went off with some of her siblings to sit at their table before the bonfire. It was the first night of summer which meant there might be a party, well that was what she was hoping would happen. It was her last summer before she would start her final year in high school. Then there was talk of sending her off to some sports college which sounded okay other than the school part.

So as she walked to the bonfire, the light was leaving the sky as she began to wonder what this summer would have for her. Would she finally get noticed by Dustin after all those years of pining after him. Getting to the place she laughed as one of her half-sisters pulled her to the side to the area the nike cabin stood together. Watching as many of the campers had gotten claimed. Some were very young it seemed which means something bad must have happened for them to come so early.

The sun was setting and of course, it was that time again. Time to get to the get the campers claimed. Well, the ones that could get claimed. He was a little worried about the two youngest ones that arrived at the camp. He didn't like that they were getting here so young. He frowned as he took a cup of something to the bonfire and sat next to his siblings. He was curious as to see if they were going to have any other brothers and sisters coming into the cabin again. He enjoyed seeing his new siblings get the shock of their life, being claimed by the war god. They all had that daddy issue though. The first claim was an owl above a girls head. He blinked and watched as Lilythe had told her to go to cabin six. He clapped with the rest of the group and started looking around the group to see who was going to be claimed next. The girl named Kenna was the next to get claimed. A fiery hammer and he smirked. A Hephaestus child. The claims seemed to be coming faster and faster when he noticed the two younger kids come in. He waved over to Octavia and Derrick as they both settled down with the rest. He was worried about them. Though he knew Lilythe would welcome them into her cabin if they weren't claimed. However, as he was thinking a lullaby began to play and Dustin yawned. Shit, he thought to himself as he used his finger and thumb to rub his eyes. Hypnos children always had that effect on everyone. However, it didn't end there. Another child of Hypnos was claimed and he cursed under his breath once again. Dude, don't claim anymore. I have things to do. He thought to himself, that he knew that was going against everything that they had fought for. Once they were all back from the sleepiness that Hypnos had caused he watched a light flicker above Octavia's head. It caused him to jump to his feet, curious about how this little girl was getting claimed at the moment. When he saw the four-leaf clover above her head, he couldn't help but smile over at James. The girl was cute and had stolen his heart while he was helping save her from the monster. He clapped and cheered with the others in her cabin as he grinned, though his attention went to Derrick. If she got claimed then surely he would as well right? His eyes never left the young boy as he soon had shadows clinging to him. He smirked, he had known from the start where this child was going. It was up to his mom to claim him. He clapped for him and nodded his head to him. Those two kids were going to be pretty strong if they were already here and claimed. Now, who was next?

It didn't take long for her to arrive and the smirk never left his lips. He made sure to catch her eyes before crossing his arms. He knew that she was going to go over to her siblings and wait to see if there was going to be more. He was with his siblings as well. However, he couldn't help but give her a one-over. This was day two with her and honestly, he couldn't help but want more but he was going to be good at the moment.

His attention soon turned to the campers that were getting claimed. A Hephaestus child, and back-to-back Hypnos kids? He yawned for a second before shaking his head. He already knew he wanted to go to bed but that just made it a little worse. Next were the two youngest ones. Which of course brought more attention to them all. Why had they gotten there so young? He hated that fact. Something bad must have happened to them both for them to be here. He frowned and watched as James ended up getting the young girl. She seemed happy and the boy ended up being placed in Nemesis cabin. That was interesting, to say the least.
