Camp Half-Blood RP

Edge of Boundary Line

Recommended Posts

MaKayla had patrol duty that evening. The sun was going down and she was out watching the forest where anything could be lurking. Her thoughts went to the training she had with dustin earlier that day and she began to blush. He was a child of ares and a cabin leader. He was a year older than her and someone she looked up to. As the two of them competed she felt happy that she was getting to spend some time with him. As the thought rushed through her mind she walked to the edge of the boundary just as the sun was setting. Soon the monsters would come out to play and she was ready for it. With a sword in one hand and a torch in the other she looked around checking. It was all clear this way......that was when she heard a noise coming from some high shrubbery close by. The monster walked out of it and as her light shown it showed to be a minotaur. Her mouth gaped as she could feel her adrenaline running in her. "Come and get me ugly". she called out taunting it.

For the most part, Asher spent her time at camp researching about her abilities and working towards acquiring new ones. She trained and kept herself fit and it was basically like she was there to engage in some much needed self-improvement. That was what she did all the summers she came here and it was the perfect setting whenever she was desperately in need to get out of New York. Other than that, she also spent a lot of time reading and she liked to do that for the most part, outside near the lake. She was walking around today though, taking in the warm rays that grazed her skin. The summer was relatively quiet and she took a deep breath as she placed one foot in front of the other, one step at a time.

She was near the boundary line, which was intriguing to the campers that spent all their time here but for Asher, it was just a looking glass into her real world. As she walked, she involuntarily walked through some leaves and ruffled them. It was then she heard a girl's voice acknowledging her presence and she chuckled. "That is quite the greeting," she said, coming into view.

MK was not realizing that Asher had come into the area either as her eyes were transfixed on the monster. That was when she was about to charge when she saw Asher. Oh great now she had to protect her as well! Spells and learning was okay but she felt would only do so much to fight monsters without brute force. "No not you..... that!" she yelled out hoping it would warn the girl before she would get hurt. She huffed and then began to attack the monster. Dodging this way and then that way as she swung at her. "Either help or move" she called after being hit and falling backwards on the ground.

There were very few things that surprised Asher so when the girl promptly snapped at her, her attention turned towards the monster just a few inches next to her. Oh, that was what the girl was referring to. That was just perfect. Asher, naturally, had experience with dealing with monsters and therefore the fact that they were about to be attacked by one didn't phase her. Not to mention, she was from New York; there were very few things that really shook her. She dodged the girl as she kept talking to her in such a disrespectful manner and saw her falling backwards after being hit. Asher would have smiled had she not been preoccupied with being hurt herself.

Unfortunately, it was bright as day and Asher knew her abilities were stronger at night. She could have used any of her spells or mist control to take care of the creature but it was a large one and the sun rays didn't help. No matter, she would rely on her physical abilities instead. That was yet another great thing about her mother, she made sure to leave her children vulnerable during the day. Thanks for nothing. As the monster was going towards the other girl, Asher hurried to get behind her. If she had a sword or something of the sort, it would have been easier to stab it from behind. She didn't carry weapons on her when walking through camp. She didn't think it was necessary.

She managed to get just behind the monster's legs and hit the back of its knees with force, causing it to stumble. "How did he manage to get past the barrier?" She asked the girl.

Being hit by the monster just hurt!!!!! She didn't look at anything as she crumbled to the ground. How did the monster get pass the boundary line? Was someone summoning monsters in the camp? All of these things were going through her mind as she tried to get up from the ground. "Ouchhhhh" she said pushing herself up from the ground "You suck you know that" came out of her mouth as stood up. Looking over at Asher she was hoping maybe she would be doing her magic but it didn't seem like she was doing anything at first. Then she did something that shocked her. She actually began to fight it using her fist. Looking at the monster as it was hit from behind it seemed to fall. Then she began to run towards the monster as it fell to its knees. "Don't know maybe someone summoned it or maybe they are getting strong" she jumped up and came down on its head.

Asher didn't even bother to hear what McKayla was saying about her. She sucked? Really? Asher mentally rolled her eyes and simply took a deep breath as she used her physical strength to take on what was in front of her. As she brushed some dirt off her clothes and took a note of the monster, making sure it was unconscious for the time being, she turned to look at the child of victory. "My powers are weak in the daylight, McKayla," she said as a matter of fact. "Surely you know that. Hence why I couldn't just use my powers." A total annoyance in her mind no doubt but it was the reality of the situation. As though her mother's abandonment wasn't good enough, she also had to deal with her limitations. "If someone summoned it, wouldn't the monster have made their way directly towards the center of camp? Why was it lingering here?"

As McKayla fought the monster she got even more frustrated with Asher as it was always the same excuse of ohhhh my powers don't work in the day "Then maybe you should have gone to fighting class with the rest of us to learn a useful skill during the day" she gritted out of her mouth as he felt exhausted. Wiping off her head she was not one to think much of things that were not some kind of sport thing. "I don't know" she turned to give her a look of disgust as killed the monster making it turn to dust. The good news was it was gone for now but bad news was that it would come back again. Turning to Asher she didn't care if she wasn't her most favorite camper. The two of them needed to tell someone about this. "Want to come with me to tell the camp director?" she said needing the back up.

Honestly, she didn't know why McKayla didn't like her but it was none of her business. She didn't even roll her eyes at the comment she made about her powers. Did she really think Asher would have spent so much time at camp and not have developed some sort of combat training? It was mandatory for them to learn and Asher was not one to skip out on lessons. She wasn't her brother. Whether or not she showed her skills was another matter entirely. She preferred to be subtle about her talents. Keep people guessing.

"Right," she said, with just the smallest hint of annoyance in her voice. She looked at the creature for a moment, studying its features. Asher was blessed with a photographic memory. She needed to record what she was seeing for later. It would be useful to share with the directors the exact details of the encounter. "Yes," she said as she turned to look at the girl. "I doubt it's the only one and we don't want any of the younger kids to come across another."

Feeling hurt, it would take Asher helping her to get back so she put her ankle up. This would take at least some time at least time to heal before she would be back out fight again. "Agreed" she said as she hobbled closer to Asher who was going to go with her. The two of them had to make sure that the others were aware of the gross thing they found in the borders of camp. McKayla was just happy it wasn't someone younger who found it. "Can you help me? I think I sprained my ankle" she said wincing in pain as it was starting to swell. Maybe there would an Apollo cabin kid who was available to help out. Knowing she wasn't the kindest in the past few minutes he looked at her with a smile "pleaseee?

The petty part of Asher would have said that McKayla had made her bed and she could lay in it. After all, her rude comments though never commented on, hadn't gone unnoticed and not she was asking for help. It was funny how that worked. Asher looked at her but there was no immediate emotion on her face. Her eyes looked down at her ankle and she kept her expression neutral when the younger girl spoke in an overly sweet voice pleading with help. Honestly, anything to keep her from making that unbearable noise. "Yeah, okay."

Asher was a tall person and despite what McKayla had implied earlier, she was confident in her strength. She walked over to the girl and placed one arm over her shoulder and the rest over her waist. She lifted her up, carrying her bridal style and though it took a moment to get her settled, McKayla was not so heavy that this was an impossible feat. "I am taking you to your cabin or the infirmary? What do you want to do?"

I mean it was sort of her fault that MK got hurt in the first place, if she had helped maybe it wouldn't have happened. MK was almost holding her breath as she waited for an answer. Trying to get back by herself would maybe make the ankle a bit worse. Which was not the ideal thing to happen. The worry began to come across her face as she then took a sigh of relief when she said yeah. "Thank you Asher" she finished saying as she saw the girl walk over to her. Asher was a very tall girl who lifted her up. It was sort of strange being in another girls arms after being in her boyfriends a week ago.

What would he think if he saw this? That Asher was sweeping her off her feet and the two would be wed. The thought made her smirk which was a good distraction from the current situation. "The big house" she said knowing the older campers might be there, maybe just an apollo child was there. They could then help heal her with a song to Apollo. "thanks again asher" she said as she had her arms around the girls neck. This was going to be an interesting walk back to the big house.

Asher didn't think much of the way she was holding McKayla. Perhaps a less mature person would have seen the two of them and found the situation amusing. Surely one of the boys would think thoughts that bordered on the obscene, but she didn't care to think of that at that moment. To her it just looked like she was carrying one of the students to the Big House in need of help and that was that. The faster she could take her and drop her off, the faster she could resume her activities. She had other things on her schedule that she wanted to divulge her entire attention to. "No problem," she said, looking at McKayla to make sure that she was comfortable in her grip.

The walk wasn't long anyway and as she walked through the boundary line, she kept thinking about that monster and how easy it was for him to get close to them. "Don't you think it is odd that the monster was just by the boundary line and it didn't trigger any alarms? I mean, had we not seen it, it would have just waltzed into the camp unnoticed."

MK was so focused on the pain in her ankle that she did not even think how this would look to the others around her. Most knew the two did not get along the best anyways so this would come as a shock to anyone. Closing her eyes she was trying to control the pain in her head as it was a pretty bad sprain. Slowly breathing she was counting down the minutes until she would be at the big house but then Asher spoke. Making her open her eyes once more "It is odd, I think that is why I was so surprised by it " she said at first thinking more of the second half of her sentence. "I would hope someone would have seen the ugly thing and called the alarm" she said with worry in her voice. There was so many young ones wondering around the camp ......it could be devastating. Then thinking of Asher and her own abilities she asked "Could you do any magic that would strengthen the border or would it only work at night?

Asher often got annoyed at the limitations of her powers but she figured there was a good reason for it. Every single demigod had their limitations and their weaknesses. For all the children of Hecate, the strength and powers was always much more powerful at night. The day time could be draining and it often weakened them. They had them to rely on their combat skills to survive in the day. No one was about to take advantage of the Hecate kids during the day because they were powerless.

Asher stopped then for a moment and looked at the boundary line. She could do the spell, she just didn't know how long it would last. Then again, she could come back to reinforce it at midnight. It would be easier then. "It would work, though it wouldn't be as strong as it needs to be. I would just need to come back at midnight when it is darkest and then the spell should be able to hold," she said. Asher then placed McKayla gently on the ground, careful not to hurt her ankle and turned towards the boundary.

It was known children of Hecate could conjure any spell, not just spells that were known but they could create whatever sort of spell they wanted as long as they had the imagination for it. She took a deep breath and casted her spell. It was no surprise that it felt forced but at that moment it did the job. She felt the strain in her arms and turned to look at McKayla. "It's not going to hold long but it will buy us some time."

The whole boundary things was sort of a big deal so she was trying to work with asher to figure it all out.  The two of them put their heads together in a way to see if maybe asher's magic would work. Knowing that she was one of the most skilled at camp, she was hoping there would be a way. "Okay well that might work" she found herself saying knowing this would have to do until they come up with a solution if they could find the root cause. Asher put her down slowly, her face winced in pain as her ankle was starting to swell and feel the full blunt of the injury. MK watched her from the ground as she turned to the boundary. It was always so interesting to her to see them at work as it was different than the rest of them.

"Well that is all we need, until we get back to talk to the others about what we are going to do" she said thinking of Lilythe and the others. Then feeling herself go a bit red she looked away for a moment before saying "Thanks for doing your magic asher" she said trying to be nice to her. This was not easy for her as she had never been a fan of asher since the day she met her. There was just a coldness about her plus the arrogance well that was in MK's opinion. Some found Asher pleasant to be around.

Asher looked at the boundary line for a moment and an idea tickled at her. She frowned, examining her spell. She could see a think coat of dark purple light that surrounded the boundary line. It was only visible to her and other Hecate kids. Their spells had a way of doing that. She touched it slightly as she thought to herself that maybe it would be a good idea to add a tracking spell. One she would have to come enforce later today anyway but it was easier to strengthen a spell than it was to cast a new one. She placed her hands on the thin layer of the protection spelled and muttered in Ancient Greek.

Once Asher was done she turned towards McKayla. "I added a tracking spell. It will let us know if any monsters are near and pin point their exact location. This will help us figure out what parts of the boundary line are more vulnerable."  As she got closer to pick up McKayla, she noticed her ankle was beginning to swell. She frowned as she leaned down and pressed her hands firmly against her ankle. "I'm adding a pressure spell so that it helps with the swelling. It is only going to feel like you have a bandage on. It will help a little for now."

MK was watching Asher with such curiosity as it wasn't all the time that you got to see hecate children doing their spells. Especially if they were doing it late at night when most of them were in bed. Asher looked like she could see something but when MK looked where her gaze was, there was just nothing there that she could see. Maybe she was not in a good position? But the girl seemed to touch whatever it was, then said stuff in ancient greek which she got. It felt a bit weird being out of the loop as she just sat on the ground but she had done her part in killing the monster for now.

"Wow, you did that fast! I mean......" she didn't mean for that to sound like a mean comment but it might have come across it that way "like how does it work?" She said trying to make it sound a bit better than it did. Her mind was on the protection of camp that she was not looking down at her ankle, well that was until Asher looked in its direction. Seeing it, the look on her face was one of worry. "Okay but please don't make it worse" her hands went to her eyes as to blind herself. Maybe she was being a bit dramatic but this was her whole future. "Just do it" she said with her hands over her eyes waiting for asher to do her magic.

Asher knew that her spells weren't going to last long but they would last them through the day and at that point, that was all she needed. She would come back and bring some of her half siblings with her. They were all mostly night owls and letting them know what had happened would guarantee their willingness to help. Not all cabins got along but if there was something they all had in common was that none of them wanted a monster roaming around the camp and attacking anyone. All the demigods were pretty much tired of constantly running and camp was the one place that made sure they were safe. They didn't want to have to deal with that constantly. "It will hold for now," she said, refraining from adding that as long as you knew what your spell was meant to do, casting them was not difficult. But alas, keeping some of the mystery of her cabin was more important at the moment.

As Asher turned her attention to McKayla, she focused on her ankle. "It won't hurt. The spell is not meant to squeeze your ankle but just wrap it. There will be nothing there but you will feel it. I'll remove the spell once we get to the Big House." Asher placed her hands on her ankle and casted her spell. The temperature in her hands lowered, it cooled to bring some comfort to the swollen injury. When she was done, she turned to look at the younger girl, expectantly. "How does that feel? Better?"

MK wished she knew more about the Hecate children's magic but well it was a mystery to her. She could not tell you if it was good or not. Or if Asher was pulling her leg all together. All she could do was to trust her in that moment. "Okay good" she said looking a tad bit worried as this could mean bad things for the camp if something was happening to the border.  But for now she was just anxious about her ankle. With Asher telling her that she could go a spell that helped. She closed her eyes not wanting to see cause maybe that would help with the pain?

It was silly but when asher explained a bit more she still felt a bit sick at the idea. "Okay, I hope this works.....cause this could really hurt my chances for gymnastics." MK closed her eyes but then opened one as she felt a cooling sensation on the spot when she sprained it. MK didn't realize at first but she was holding her breath until Asher spoke once again. "It is feeling a bit better but the throbbing is getting worse....we better find an apollo kid at the big house" her mind was racing of who might be available to help her. The worry on her face but then she felt guilty. "Thanks Asher" she said knowing the older camper did not have to do that for her.

Asher didn't say anything. She trusted her magic and she trusted her ability with it. Right now she was focused on prevention rather than healing. She wasn't the one that was going to heal McKayla, especially not when she said she was worried about her chances at gymnastics. Asher was not going to be the one person that ruined a Nike kid's chances at competition. That was not something she had interest in dealing with. Especially when McKayla already didn't like her much. Yeah, that would be a hard pass. "It'll be okay," Asher said, without really know what else to say in that regard. It wasn't a term that would bring much comfort but it was better than walking in silence. When they got closer to the big house, Asher turned to McKayla. "Where do you want me to drop you off?"

As the trip to the big house seemed like a long one, with a lot of silence and then Asher saying it will be okay! Was it going to be okay? Was this going to be the end of her career in gymnastics??? Maybe she was being over dramatic!!! But it was something she had wanted for so long that it would suck if this was it. Seeing the big house coming up she took a sigh of relief. It was going to be okay she told herself trying to calm the anxiety that was welling up inside of her. "On the front porch is fine" she said to her with a nervous smile. There should be an apollo camper on duty in the house so she could call out and not move. At least being on the porch gave her fresh air to breathe if people began to crowd.

When they reached the Big House, Asher walked straight to the front and found, as expected an Apollo kid on duty. It didn't take a genius to know what had happened, given that Asher was still carrying McKayla in her arms and the latter looked in slight pain. They were approached fast and before one of the Apollo kids could grab McKayla in his own arms, Asher turned to look at him. "There was an incident at the edge of the boundary line," she said, in an authority known to Hecate kids and older campers. "We had a monster manage to come in. The boundary line is secure for now but I need to go make sure it holds and alert the counselors. McKayla hurt her ankle in the process. She currently has a spell putting pressure on the ankle to make sure it does not swell much. It should release once proper medical attention can be given." She looked at the Apollo kid and once he nodded in her direction, Asher handed McKayla over. "I hope you feel better soon," she said and that was that.

Happy to see the big house come into view, a bit of relief came to her when she knew soon, she would be healed. Asher had helped but now maybe this would give her some relief from the anxiety she was feeling. Her whole career was tied up in this so it. MK watched as Asher spoke to the Apollo camper before handing her over. Being lifted up she watched as Asher leave "Bye Asher, don't be a stranger" she said knowing this might make the girl laugh as MK wasn't her biggest fan but after today she had a different feeling about her. Turning to the Apollo camper "Please heal me" her eyes had so much desperation in them. As he whisked her off to sing his hymn to his father.
